Hello, everyone!
Welcome to Door Number 4…
Welcome to Door Number 4…
There is one song that, for me, is the true sound of Advent.
The moment I hear its ancient, longing melody, December stops rushing and simply breathes.
Veni, Veni Emmanuel – O Come, O Come, Emmanuel (I'm Catholic, and Latin has a special place in my heart).

I fell in love with it the first time I heard it sung in a haunting Gregorian chant. No instruments, just human voices weaving together like incense rising in a dark cathedral. I've listened to many versions since, but this is one of my favourites: Veni Veni Emmanuel – Clamavi De Profundis
The Latin words are a cry of longing:
“O come, O come, Emmanuel… and ransom captive Israel.”
“O come, O come, Emmanuel… and ransom captive Israel.”
Every verse is another plea for light to break into the waiting darkness. Tonight, if you have five quiet minutes, put your earphones in, dim the lights, and let these voices carry you.
You don’t need to understand every word – just feel the ache and the hope braided together.
This is my Advent carol. It always will be.
Your turn. In the comments: What song feels like the true beginning of Christmas for you? Doesn’t matter if it’s an ancient chant or Mariah Carey – all answers are welcome.
See you tomorrow behind Door 5…
