End of summer favourites

September 16, 2016 0 Comments
Hello everyone!

Summer is coming to a close, and in honour of all the summer days I've enjoyed these past months I thought I'd rave about my favourite beauty products.  Some, of course, I will keep using through autumn...

Hair care products
This summer I cut my hair several times, currently it's at collarbone length and I love it.  My hair is wavy and frizzy so I've been straightening it a lot this summer, since I find it easier to manage that way.  However my hair tends to look oily by the second day and I will not heat style my hair more than once a week.  Luckily I found three amazing products that solved all of my hair problems.

Yves Rocher Botanical Hair Repair Oil
This is a pre-poo (pre-wash) oil is enriched with restorative babassu, jojoba and macadamia oils to nourish the scalp and strengthen the hair.  Contains more than 99% natural ingredients.  I apply it twice a week to dry hair before shampooing, leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash my hair.  My hair feels soft, hydrated and virtually frizz-free!

Aussie Miracle Recharge (Take the Heat Conditioning Spray)
This product is enriched with Australian jojoba seed oil, and also contains the hair-penetrating ingredient panthenol.  I've used quite a few heat protectants in the past and some tend to tangle my hair, this product does the exact opposite.  It is  both a heat protectant and a detangling leave-in conditioner.

Aussie Miracle Dry Shampoo (Mega Instant)
I love this dry shampoo!  It smells great and it cleanses and revives my hair in a matter of minutes!

Make-up
Here's a list of my top 5 summer make-up favourites:

Essence I Love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara
I'm obsessed with this mascara - It gives me the "false lash effect".

Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara (Browny Brows 02)
I've used all kinds of eyebrow products over the years and this is my everyday go-to brow product.   It makes my brows look denser and perfectly defined all day.

Essence Stay All Day 16h Concealer (20 Soft Beige)
A long-lasting concealer with light-reflecting pigments.  Its creamy, soft texture, makes it very easy to apply.  Makes all my skin imperfections disappear.  Love it!

Catrice Prime And Fine Mattifying Powder - Waterproof
This translucent powder withstands humidity and mattifies the skin for hours.

Catrice Made To Stay Smoothing Lip Polish (060 Mission PINKpossible)
This is my favourite lip colour.   This product is amazing; it combines the colour of a lipstick, the durability of stains and lustre of a gloss in one product.

Shower products
These two were my shower must-haves this summer:

Yves Rocher Exfoliating Shower Gel (Organic Raspberry)
The 100% natural fruit seeds gently exfoliate the skin.  Its gentle formula allows for daily use.  It's also paraben free and has a biodegradable formula

Nivea In-Shower Body Moisturiser (Indulging Honey)
I find in-shower lotions to be the most convenient way to moisturise.  This one if my favourite because I just adore the sweet honey scent.

That's all for now.  These were my 10
favourites beauty product this summer.  What were your favourites of the summer?

Six beauty trends to ditch in 2016

January 20, 2016 3 Comments
Hello everyone!

So it's already January 20th and this is my first post in 2016.  My year started with a lot of internet connection problems, but hopefully that issue is resolved (fingers crossed).

So let's get started!  From mid-length haircuts to no-light gel nail polishes (which I ❤), 2015 brought us a lot of beauty trends, but there are a few trends that I think should be left behind.  Check out the six beauty trends to ditch in 2016:
  1. Instagram eyebrows - The Instagram brow or the faded eyebrow, is very popular among MUAs because it photographs well, but in person, it is very odd-looking.
  2. Heavy contour: Contouring has been around for years but it reached new heights in 2015 with techniques like clown contouring.
  3. Waist trainers: While many believe that wearing a waist trainer will help them get an hour glass shape, the results are only temporary and can cause some health problems.
  4. Overdrawn lips: Thanks to Kylie Jenner, the obsession with lips got a little out of control in 2015.
  5. Crazy nail art and nail shapes:  Whether nude or coloured, claw-shaped nails need to go away.  In 2016, file your nails into a squoval for a more natural look.
  6. Insanely long extensions: This year it's all about texture and short, chic cuts.  Everyone is going short, so now's the time to take the plunge, just go for it.
These are six beauty trends I really don't like!  I prefer the natural look, at least for everyday; natural make-up, nails, hair, eyelashes, eyebrows, etc.  If you are a fan of any of the trends I mentions, I'm not judging!  Fashion and make-up should be means of self-expression, so DO YOU, always!

What is your least favourite trend?  Is there a beauty trend you just can't stand?

Taylor's Wonderland eyebrows

November 12, 2014 0 Comments
Hello everyone!

Have you seen the latest Wonderland cover yet?  Everyone is talking about Taylor's eyebrows.  She went for a totally different look on the cover of Wonderland magazine (Nov-Dec issue), rocking darker, bolder brows.  It’s kind of amazing how eyebrows can change a person’s entire appearance.  Sure, Taylor's skin looks way tanner than her natural fair skin-tone but, it’s really her dark, bold brows that completely transform her face.

Overall, it’s a big change for Taylor, who usually has fair eyebrows, like she sported on the cover of British Vogue magazine (November issue).

What do you think of Taylor Swift’s look?  Are you a fan?  I just LOVE bold brows.  Share your thoughts below!

No make-up allowed!

August 16, 2014 1 Comments
Hello everyone!

Some schools have a really strict no make-up policy but if you follow these tips nobody will be able to tell you're wearing any.  Here are a few tips for your eyebrows, face, eyes and lips!

Eyebrows:
  1. Grooming you eyebrows will help to open your eyes and frame your face.  Make sure to click here to find out what eyebrow shape will suit your face.
  2. Tame unruly eyebrows using an eyebrow gel or clear mascara.

Face:

  1. Wear a good moisturiser and a face primer.  You don't have to wear any make-up on top of it.  A good primer can reduce the appearance of enlarged pores, even out your skin tone and control shine.
  2. You could also use a tinted moisturiser or BB cream.
  3. Remember, if you have oily skin, never leave the house without blotting sheets!
Eyes:
  1. Use an eyelash curler.
  2. Apply a couple of coats of clear mascara to your eyelashes.
Lips:
  1. Apply some lip balm.
  2. Smile!  Your face looks great when you smile.
You don't need make-up to look beautiful.
    Confidence is Beauty!
I hope this was helpful.  If you have more tips leave them in the comment section below.

Re-grow over-plucked eyebrows! (part 2)

May 26, 2014 0 Comments
Hello everyone!

In this post I will give you more tips on how to grow back your eyebrows.  Read part 1 here!

Exfoliation is a method that can help the growth of eyebrow hair.  You can use a soft toothbrush or a spoolie to scrub and exfoliate the area.  Using the brush in circular motion will help to remove dead skin and will enhance the blood circulation.  Another way to exfoliate is by using an exfoliating scrub.  Try a DIY recipe here!  Apply the scrub in a circular motion and BE GENTLE.  Too much pressure can damage the fine, fragile hair that is already there.

The row-growing method:

You need to STOP plucking, waxing and threading!  Although this seem like a no-brainer, the messy look that will develop when you leave your brows un-touched for a while is not  flattering.

If you can't stand the idea of letting all your hairs grow out before you shape your eyebrows, try the row-growing method.  Allow hairs closest to the existing brow to grow out and SHAVE the stray hairs with an eyebrow razor.

eyebrow razor

When the row is finished growing in, start on the next row.  Shaving the hair can enhance the growth of hair, therefore using a brow razor can also stimulate growth.  Try using a brow razor to shave the areas where you want more growth to occur.  Continue growing your brows out a row at a time until they're finished growing back.  This method gives your brows a neater appearance.

Patience is the key to your success.  You cannot expect your eyebrows to  magically grow overnight.  You will have to give it time and wait for the brows to grow back.

Oh, and check out the related blog posts linked below!  If you have more tips, leave them in the comment section below.

My eyebrow essentials

May 21, 2014 1 Comments
Hello everyone!

Having naturally dark brows, I've never felt the need to fill them in until a couple of years ago.  Before, the only maintenance my brows received was regular tweezing.

Nowadays my eyebrow routine is a bit more elaborate but I assure you... it's worth it!  My eyebrow essentials are; a good pair of tweezers, eyebrow scissors, eyebrow razor, eyebrow comb/brush, eyebrow pencil and eyebrow gel.

These are my current favourites:

If you would like to know more about my eyebrow routine or how I use these products, leave a comment and let me know!  What are your eyebrow essentials?

March favourites

April 07, 2014 1 Comments
Hello everyone!

It's time for another favourites post.  These are four of my favourite beauty products from last month!

Garnier Fructis Oil Repair 3 Ultra Nourishing Mask
I tried a bunch of different hair masks and this is one of my favourites.  This hair mask is enriched with 3 active oil; olive, avocado and shea-butter, to nourish and repair dry, damaged and dull hair.  I use it as a deep conditioner and I really love it.  After washing it out, my hair feels soft and moisturised.

I also love the Garnier Fructis Henna and Blackberry Vinegar hair mask and currently I am trying out their mask for curly hair.  And if you are looking for a DIY hair treatment,  why don't you try my latest DIY hair mask?

Nivea Deodorant Pure & Natural Action
I love this deodorant because it's aluminium-free and lets the skin breathe.  It doesn't clog pores and it claims to offer 48 hour protection.  I also like the delicate jasmine scent.  I don't like using deodorants with strong, overwhelming fragrances.

Maybelline Forever Strong Pro (#76 French Manicure)
This is the only nail polish I wore last month - and that explains the lack of NOTD posts ;).  It has a curved brush which gives you perfect precision and it's enriched with calcium, iron and silica, for stronger nails.  This polish also gives my nails a break from bright and dark colours that can stain the nails.

This is what one coat of #76 looks like on my nails.

Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil (Deep Brown)
I love this brow pencil because it's so easy to apply.  I apply clear mascara/brow gel on first, this acts as a primer and makes the pencil last all day.  Then I apply the brow pencil in hair-like strokes and blend colour with the comb on the other side.

What beauty products have you been loving lately?  Leave a comment and let me know!

DIY: Eyebrow growth serum

January 08, 2014 3 Comments
Hello everyone!

Today I want to share with you a recipe for a DIY serum formulated for encouraging the growth of healthier, fuller-looking brows.

You will need:
  • rosemary essential oil
  • castor oil
  • empty clear mascara tube/small jar

Rosemary is a well-known hair growth stimulant that is also used on the scalp to promote hair growth.  It can be used anywhere on the body including the eyebrows to make them grow faster.  It is important to dilute it with a base oil (like castor oil) before applying to the skin.

Castor oil helps the hair grow thicker and longer, and can keep it from breaking.  It can also help you grow new eyebrow hair in bare areas that might have been over-plucked.

Method:

  1. Pour 1 tablespoon castor oil and 8 to 10 drops of rosemary essential oil in an empty clear mascara tube (or a small jar) and shake to mix the oils.
  2. Wash your face and make sure your eyebrows and the surrounding area is free of any make-up.  Pat your face and eyebrows dry.
  3. Apply the mixture to each eyebrow.  Massage the oils into the eyebrow area for 30 to 60 seconds.
  4. Leave the oils on your eyebrows overnight to allow them to be absorbed into your skin and into the hair follicles.
  5. In the morning, wash the oil off.
With regular use, you will achieve fuller, longer, and more youthful-looking brows with less breakage.

Have you used castor oil or rosemary oil for any beauty purpose?  Share your experience in the comments below!

The best eyebrows for your face shape

December 21, 2013 1 Comments
Hello everyone!
Today's post is another eyebrow post - I told you I'm obsessed! ;-)
Eyebrows can change the way your face looks, so it’s important to have perfectly shaped brows that complement and balance your face.

woman tweezing her eyebrows

If you don't know your face shape, take this quiz and find out!
Here are some tips to help you choose the most flattering eyebrow shape to complement your facial features:
Oval face
Oval faces are lucky; oval faces are considered the perfect shape.  Full brows with a prominent arch are most complementing and to create the appearance of fuller cheeks, shorter length brows work amazingly.
Round face
Choose medium to full brows that are more angular than round, an arch will complement your natural features and offset the roundness of your face.
Angular face (Heart, Inverted triangle, Diamond, Pear)
Your face already has angles so medium brows that are rounded with a soft arch work best.  A high arch will only make you look permanently surprised!
Square/Rectangle face
Like an angular face, you want medium brows that aren't overly flat or arched.  A soft arch will soften the angles of the face.
Long/Oblong
Flat straight eyebrows will help to shorten your face vertically and a low arch will help open up your face horizontally.
Note for all:
Steer clear of thin eyebrows.  Eyebrows need to be in proportion with your face like all other features, so it’s best to get them groomed by a professional to ensure they are perfectly suited to you.
I also came across these very useful eyebrow-shaping tips from doeadeery.com:

Eyebrow pencil tips

November 28, 2013 2 Comments
Hello everyone!

As we all know, well groomed eyebrows balance your features and frame your eyes As I told you previously, I'm kind of obsessed with eyebrows

A common way to groom your eyebrows is by using eyebrow pencil.  This post will explain how to use it correctly.

If you want well defined, natural-looking eyebrows, all you have to do is follow these few simple steps and additional tips below.

Step 1: Fill-in the eyebrows with your pencil using thin, hair-like strokes.  Use short strokes that overlap, to make the eyebrows appear fuller.

Step 2: Blend colour and groom brows with an eyebrow comb or spooley brush.
Step 3: (Optional) For very defined brows, take a small flat brush and apply creamy concealer around the brows to tidy up the edges.
Step 4: (Optional) Keep you eyebrows in place with a brow gel.

Tips:
  • Choose the shade closest to you natural colour.
  • Never, ever fill in your brows with black pencil!  Unless you want the black Sharpie brows, don’t do this.  Even if you have black eyebrows, you want to fill them in with a dark brown colour - not black.
  • Make sure your eyebrows are groomed, before applying any make-up.
  • When it comes to filling-in your brows, the key is to remember to imitate the look of the hairs.
  • Never use solid tick lines to “draw in” the eyebrows.  A series of thin, overlapping strokes provides a more natural-looking result.
Remember eyebrows are sisters, not twins.

5 Beauty “quick fixes”!

July 03, 2013 0 Comments

Hello everyone!

Since we all look for quick fixes in time of “emergency”, here are five beauty “quick fixes” ;)

1.   Apply a drop of super glue over a broken nail, then buff gently with a nail file.  Repeat twice, and then apply a coloured nail polish.

2.   Prime your lips with foundation before applying your lipstick.  It will help the colour stay all day.

3.   If you ran out of shaving gel, use conditioner.  You’ll actually get a closer shave and your legs will feel incredibly soft.

4.   Apply hairspray to a toothbrush and brush eyebrows upward to keep them in place.

5.   Don't have time to wait, after a DIY manicure?  Let your nails dry for two minutes, and then submerge into ice cold water for three minutes.  The cold water will help the polish dry completely.

On another note... I just opened an online store with my mom, Rose!  She is a very talented, creative woman.
