DIY: Acne fighting mask

March 24, 2018 1 Comments
Hello everyone!

Yesterday I posted a recipe for a DIY acne-fighting gel and today I want to share another acne-fighting beauty recipe with you.  For this DIY you will need two key ingredients; a lemon and a tomato.

DIY: Acne fighting mask

Ingredients:
  • 1 ripe tomato
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp oatmeal (optional)

Lemons are full of AHA’s and BHA’s which remove dead skin cells, fight acne, minimize pores and brighten skin.  Back in November of 2011, I posted an article titled: Lemons for clear skin; in which I wrote about the countless benefits of lemons.  Make sure you read it for more information.
Tomatoes have cooling and astringent properties.  They’re also rich in antioxidants like vitamin C and vitamin A.  Their acidity helps tame excessive oil production too.
Oatmeal helps reduce itching and inflammation and can be used to calm acne, eczema and heal psoriasis.
Method:
  1. Mash the peeled tomato in a bowl.
  2. Add the lemon juice (and oatmeal) and mix everything together.
  3. Apply to clean face and leave on for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Rinse and follow with your favourite toner and moisturiser.

Tip: If you have dry skin add half a teaspoon of coconut oil to this mask.

Three methods to whiten yellow nails

November 05, 2012 1 Comments

Nail polish can leave yellow stains on your nails (and so can nicotine) that can make your hands look very unattractive.  If you have yellow nails, you can use one of these quick, easy and cheap methods to whiten them.

Method 1:
Dissolve a denture-cleaning tablet in a bowl of water and soak your nails for 10 minutes.

Method 2:
Brush your nails with a paste of lemon juice and baking soda.

Method 3:
Make a paste of three tablespoons of baking soda and one tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide.  Apply the paste to each nail.  Leave on for 5 minutes.

Tips:
  • Always wash and moisturise your hands and nails after applying any of these treatments.
  • Before applying nail polish, always apply a  base coat to prevent staining.

Hope you find this helpful! J

Lemons for clear skin

November 02, 2011 5 Comments
Hello everyone!

The health benefits of lemons are countless, but did you know that they can be particularly beneficial to oily and/or acne-prone skin?

What makes the lemon one of the best natural skincare ingredients?

The lemon…

  • Is rich in vitamin C ( one of the best skin vitamins)
  • Is a natural astringent
  • Is a natural skin whitener
  • Stimulates blood circulation

Lemon juice can be used both topically and internally to achieve soft, smooth and clear skin.

Topical use:

Lemons can help heal acne and acne scars.  Citric acid contained in lemon juice exfoliates the skin, which is essential to accelerate the healing of acne. It also acts as an astringent and dries the pimples.  Also, being a natural whitener, lemon juice reduces the redness of pimples naturally.
You can dilute the lemon juice with water and use it as a skin toner.  I suggest adding pure lemon juice to a wet cotton ball.  If you have sensitive skin and think that diluted lemon juice would still irritate your skin, mix a few undiluted drops with Aloe vera.
Lemons are also a great way to get rid of blackheads.  Rub lemon juice over any blackhead you might have, before going to bed, and then wash it off the next morning.  Repeat nightly if necessary.

Internal use:
Drink a glass of warm water with lemon juice and honey first thing in the morning (i.e. on an empty stomach), every day.  This will help to clean your body and clear the skin.

Tips:
Lemons can irritate the skin so avoid using them on broken or sensitive skin, when undiluted.
Do not apply lemon juice to your skin during the day, before sun exposure, as it makes the skin more sensitive to sunlight and can leave brown marks on the skin.

I just love the cleansing benefits of lemons.  How about you?
