I've had my tragus piercing for almost 20 years! 😲

Hello everyone!

Next Sunday I'll be celebrating my 36th birthday, and since I got my left tragus pierced when I was 16, this means that; I've had my tragus piercing for almost 20 years!  I do not remember the exact month but I remember that it was during the scholastic year, not the summer months.  I'm certain of this because I clearly remember my friends noticing my new piercing during class.  At the time, I was a student at Junior College, so I wasn't breaking any dress code rules.  This was the first piercing I got, other than my first lobe piercings.  You can find out more about my ear piercings, here.

Since this is a piercing I get a lot of questions about, I decided to write this post to tell you everything you need to know about the tragus piercing.

tragus and lobe piercings

Back in 2001, tragus piercing was not as common as it is today.  Some of you may be wondering; what is a tragus piercing and where is it located?  A tragus piercing is the perforation of the tragus, the small cartilage flap that partially covers the ear canal.  Due to its placement, not every ear is suitable for a tragus piercing.  Generally, fleshy areas, like lobe piercings,  are less painful than cartilage piercing, while thicker cartilage often means a more painful piercing, but the tragus is an exception.  Although the tragus is thick cartilage, it also has very few nerves.  This means that there is usually minimal pain.

Choosing a flat back earring is probably the safest option, however, rings and barbells are also very popular.  Keep in mind that, if the jewellery is too small or tight it can cause inflammation.  Generally, this piercing takes between 1 and 6 months to heal.  Mine healed surprisingly quickly.  As with any piercing, how you care for it will affect how long it takes to heal.  If you’re looking for an ear piercing that stands out from the rest, the tragus piercing is a great choice.

Do you have any cartilage piercings?  How old were you when you got your first cartilage piercing?  Leave a comment and let me know.

It's the ideal time to express your feelings for your special someone and send them gifts maybe jewellery or Gold Septum Ring , and what better way to do so than by giving them a stunning piece of jewellery or a watch...something they'll cherish for a lifetime!
