Last-minute Halloween costume | Rosie The Riveter

Hello everyone!

It's almost Halloween! Are you looking for a last-minute Halloween costume? Don’t want to spend money on a new store-bought one or take a lot of time to do it yourself? Perfect! Here's a quick and easy Rosie the Riveter costume.

Rosie The Riveter poster

Rosie the Riveter was an allegorical cultural icon of World War II, representing the women who worked in factories and shipyards during the war.

Ready to do your own version of Rosie the Riveter costume? This iconic character is really easy to pull off and looks great. You’ll need:

  • Polka dotted headband
  • Blue collared shirt (or overall)
  • Red socks
  • Black shoes
  • Cardstock paper

Rosie's costume:

Tie the headband around your head and style your hair accordingly. Usually, the character is shown with blue overalls, but if you don't own overalls, a blue shirt and blue jeans will work just fine. Put on a pair of red socks and black shoes.

I made Rosie's speech bubble and name badge so you can save them and make your Rosie the Riveter DIY Halloween costume legit! So go ahead and save them!

You can then print them onto cardstock paper then, simply cut out the speech bubble and the name badge. Stick the speech bubble onto a stick or straw and carry it around. Use a pin back or velcro to stick Rosie's name badge to your clothes to make sure everyone knows who you are!

Rosie's makeup:

  • Eyebrows: Use an eyebrow pencil to fill in your brows. Rosie is known for her bold but thin brows.
  • Eyes: Use any neutral eyeshadow palette. Then, do Rosie’s signature winged eyeliner.
  • Cheeks: Apply some blush.
  • Lips: Apply your favourite red lipstick.

  3. Thank you for this. I was planning on going as Rosie, and just needed the name tag to complete my costume. Total expense for me.......the price of a pair of (red) socks.

    1. Rosie is such an iconic character, and adding the name tag will definitely make it more recognisable.
