The importance of handwashing 💧

Hi everyone!

I hope you’re all doing well in these crazy times...

As we all know, our hands come into contact with millions of germs every day.  Regular handwashing is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and prevent the spread of germs to others.

Note: Antibacterial soap is unnecessary and does not offer an advantage over regular soap.

Frequently touching your face can transfer dirt, oil, and bacteria from your hands, leading to clogged pores and breakouts.  Getting into the habit of not touching your face is one of the most effective ways to control oily skin.  It is also a skincare no-no if you have acne-prone skin.

Handwashing is only one part of hand hygiene.  Looking after your skin is important, as your skin is your most effective barrier against infection.  Washing your hands a lot throughout the day can lead to dryness and cracking.  This is because each time you wash your hands; you are stripping away natural oils from your skin.

You can help to look after your hands if you:

  • Apply a hand cream three to four times a day.
  • Use gloves to wash dishes.
  • Use gloves when gardening to prevent a build-up of ingrained soil or scratches.
  • Use warm (not hot) water when washing your hands.
