Why I'm embracing short-form videos (and you should too!)

Hello, everyone!

Lately, I've been posting a lot more reels on Instagram and shorts on YouTube across all my channels, and I've noticed something quite striking about how content performs these days. Short videos seem to rack up views far more quickly and in much greater numbers compared to my longer, more in-depth videos – which, unfortunately, take considerably longer to produce yet often receive only a fraction of the attention.

It's a bit frustrating, isn't it? Pouring hours (oftentimes days!) into researching, scripting, gathering images and clips, and editing a detailed video, only to see it overshadowed by a quick 30-second clip. But that's the reality of today's social media algorithms – they absolutely love short-form content because it's snappy, easy to consume on the go, and keeps viewers scrolling.

That said, shorts and reels have proven incredibly useful, especially on my true crime channel. For True Crime Tales with Cosette, they're perfect for sharing case updates in real time – whether it's a breaking development in an ongoing investigation, new evidence emerging, or a chilling detail from a cold case. These bite-sized videos allow me to keep you all informed without delay, spark curiosity, and direct you towards the full, longer videos for the complete story.

I'm still fully committed to creating those in-depth, longer pieces because that's where the real storytelling and value lie – but embracing shorts has been a game-changer for growing reach and engagement across all three channels.

If you're enjoying my content – whether it's beauty, wellness, true crime, or eerie tales – I'd love for you to subscribe to all my YouTube channels:

And don't forget to follow me on Instagram, X, and yes, even Facebook for updates and more short-form fun!

Your support truly means the world and helps me keep creating the content you love.

What about you? Do you prefer watching quick shorts and reels, or do you still carve out time for longer, in-depth videos? Let me know in the comments below – I'd genuinely love to hear your thoughts!

Lots of love,

Cosette
