DIY: All-natural vapour rub

Hello everyone!

Cold and flu season is here! Many people reach for a jar of Vicks VapoRub at the first signs of congestion. However, if you are like me, you will opt for a more natural option like a homemade essential oil rub instead. It works like a charm!

This homemade rub with essential oils is all-natural, chemical-free, and so simple to make. Whether you are an adult or a child, this homemade rub will work great at helping you breathe easier.

Here's the quick and easy recipe...

Ingredients:

  • Coconut oil
  • Eucalyptus essential oil
  • Peppermint essential oil

Coconut oil has many skin benefits, so using it as a main ingredient in the homemade vapour rub has many perks.

Eucalyptus essential oil treats several respiratory problems, including; cold, cough, running nose, sore throat, and nasal congestion.

Peppermint essential oil can reduce fevers, clears the respiratory tract, and can open your airways and act as a decongestant.

Method:

  1. Scoop 1 cup of coconut oil into a mixing bowl.
  2. (For adults) Add 20-25 drops of eucalyptus oil and 10-15 drops of peppermint oil into the bowl.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Scoop the mixture into a container with an airtight lid for easy storage.
  5. Store in a cool, dry place without direct heat or sunlight.
  6. Apply to throat and chest.

Store-bought vapour rubs are made for adults, children, and babies. With this DIY rub, you can adjust the amount of essential oil according to age to make it safe for every family member.

Adults: 30-40 drops of essential oils
Children under 13 years: 15-20 drops essential oils
Babies under 1 year: 8-10 drops of essential oils

I have been using it for a few years now, and it works every time! This homemade vapour rub with essential oils is the perfect all-natural cold relief. Give this recipe a try today and let me know if you like it.
