DIY: Nail soak for stronger nails

Image
Hello everyone! Do you have dry cuticles? Are your nails breaking and splitting?  Try this  DIY nail soak recipe  to  strengthen nails and prevent splitting . This nail soak will also  soften and hydrate cuticles . Unfortunately, this winter has been rather harsh on my nails (and skin)! Many use moisturising hand creams throughout the day, especially after washing and before bed. But sometimes, you can still have dry nails and cuticles. The cuticle protects your nails by acting as a barrier against bacteria. It can get dry and crack easily, especially during the colder months. Dry cuticles will flake, crack, or peel and this may allow bacteria to enter your nails and cause an infection. Without adequate moisture, our nails can become brittle, break and peel easily. If you are dealing with dry nails and cuticles, this  DIY nail soak recipe  is just what you need.   Ingredients: 1 cup of hot water 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil (moisturising and strengthening) 1 teaspoon lemon juice (

Eleven (11) ways to stop a toothache quickly

Image
Hello everyone! This weekend I did not publish any blog posts or  YouTube  videos because I had a terrible migraine caused by wisdom tooth pain. The pain was unbearable, and I didn't do anything productive all weekend. A toothache is a pain in and around the teeth and jaws. When you have a toothache, the  trigeminal nerve  can get irritated and trigger a  migraine headache . If the toothache is left untreated, it can cause other symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light or sound. If the pain lasts more than two days, it is best to see a dentist. Until then, the following  home remedies  may provide some relief from the discomfort.  1. Take painkillers Taking a painkiller can help to quiet tooth pain. Be careful and follow the recommended dosage. 2. Analgesic gel An analgesic gel can temporarily numb the gums around your affected tooth. This will relieve the pain and let you get some sleep before you can see a dentist. 3. Elevate your head When going to sleep, t

Hello everyone! It's back to school time again!   Back to school  can be an exciting time for both children and parents. Starting a new school year requires plenty of preparations, such as shopping for stationery, a new bag, shoes and clothes/uniform. One thing most parents do not prepare for when sending their little ones back to school is  head lice . As any reader of this blog will know, I believe in the power of natural ingredients, particularly  essential oils . When you do a simple  Google  search, you quickly find out what  essential oils  are good at  repelling lice , but the question is, what to do with that information? How can you use essential oils to repel head lice? The following essential oils have been shown to effectively repel lice: Lavender oil Tea tree oil Clove oil Rosemary oil Geranium oil Lemongrass oil These are other essential oils that can repel head lice but are not recommended for children under six (6) years: Peppermint oil   Anise seed oil Eucalyptus o

DIY: Natural whitening toothpaste

Hello everyone! In a previous post, I wrote about how I make my own  natural toothpaste  by mixing coconut oil and baking soda. I still use that DIY recipe, together with others I like. In another post, I also talked about the benefits of activated charcoal and included teeth whitening, among numerous other benefits. DIY: Natural toothpaste What are the benefits of activated charcoal? Today, I want to share a DIY recipe for an  all-natural turmeric whitening toothpaste .    Turmeric is a popular spice which has been used, as a healing and herbal remedy, for thousands of years. Turmeric is a well-known anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial herb, making it useful for home dental care. It is a natural product, which makes it a better alternative to commercial teeth whiteners.  In fact, turmeric lacks the side effects of many commercial teeth whiteners. These include   dental enamel damage, gum irritation, risk of tooth sensitivity, and more. Possible benefits you can get from turmeric tooth

DIY: Soothing and collagen-producing (vegan) face mask

Image
Hello everyone! Today I want to share another  vegan DIY beauty recipe  with you, this time a  soothing and collagen-producing face mask . All you need are three simple ingredients you probably already have at home. Ingredients: 1 ripe banana ½ a cup of cooked oats ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon Here's how it works: Bananas  are amongst the top three most nutritious fruits. They contain large amounts of magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, iodine and vitamin A, B, E, and F. Vitamin A in bananas promotes  skin-cell turnover . Applying cooked  oatmeal  to the skin can  reduce skin redness and inflammation . Cinnamon  contains cinnamaldehyde (the organic compound that gives cinnamon its flavour and colour), which  increases collagen levels.  This means that when cinnamon is applied to the skin or ingested, collagen levels will increase. Method: Cook the oatmeal. Mash the ripe banana in a bowl and add to the oatmeal. Add the cinnamon. Mix well. Allow the oatmeal to cool and then apply to the face
