Give your hair a break!

Hello everyone!

I have a confession to make: I hate wearing my hair down!  I feel like it's always in my face.  My hair is usually pulled back tightly in a top knot bun.

Hair buns and ponytails are good at keeping hair out of your face, but they can also cause major damage.  Tight hairstyles can add stress to hair follicles, causing breakage.

You should try to keep tight styles to a minimum.  I am currently working on this.  If you are anything like me, here are a few tips that will help:

Upgrade your hair bands
Removing hair elastics often leads to breakage.  When you must tie your hair, opt for hair ties that slide easily out of hair.  Look for metal-free elastics, which help to prevent breakage.

I'm currently loving the spring hair bands.  They are even save to use on my curly hair!

Wear it loose
Make sure it's not too tight and it's loosely secured with a hair band.

Switch it up
Consistently tying your hair in the same spot can weaken the hair shaft and result in breakage.  Instead of always putting your hair up the same way, switch things up: wear a high ponytail one day, a low one another, a braid on one side, a braid on the other, etc.

Let your scalp relax
When you're relaxing out at home, give your hair the chance to relax too.  Leave your hair down during your time off so your poor scalp can take a break.

Don't wear wet hair up
Avoid tying  your hair when it's wet;  when your hair is wet, it's at its weakest and breaks easily.

Sleep on silk
Sleeping on silk pillowcases reduces breakage and can also reduces frizz.  At the very least, wear your hair down when you sleep.
