Organise your fashionista life with clipix

February 09, 2012 0 Comments
One of my new year’s resolutions is to be more organised.  So far I think I’m doing a good job.  So, recently I came across I site called clipix.   Clipix solves the problem we all sometimes have of seeing loads of things online each day and never having a good way to save and organise them.  It’s a very useful tool and it helps me organise my life online too!
Clipix is the perfect tool for those who like to have a place where they can save and organise all their favourite items.  Create a free account and you can start creating clipboards where you can save everything that you see online.  You can also organise them in any way you want.  You can customise the settings of your clipboards and choose whether you want to share them with your friends or not.  You can also set the privacy settings of each board individually.
Setting up my account was as easy as signing in using Twitter or Facebook.  However, if you don’t want to use either of those, you can just sign up using an e-mail.
At the moment I have various clipboards on my clipix account:  I have a clipboard where I clip interesting articles I come across.  I have one labelled “Gift ideas”; where I clip things I like and think would make a great gift for my family or friends.

clipix

Another one labeled “Fashion”; where I clip cute outfits and accessories for future reference.

clipix

I also have a clipboard labelled “Hair straighteners”; where I clip straighteners I like.  That way I can easily compare features and prizes.

clipix

Besides, you are not limited to just using clipix on your computer.  Clipix also offers and iPhone app.
Here is a video with a little more information on clipix:

I love that I can use clipix for organizing anything and everything online.

What are you going to use clipix for?  Tell me in the comments below.

SOS - Chapped lips!

February 09, 2012 2 Comments
Oh baby it’s cold outside!

Cold weather can be very harsh on the skin, especially on our lips.  Chapped lips are unattractive and sometimes can be painful.

Here are some tips on how to prevent and/or treat chapped lips:

lips

1.  Drink plenty of water.  Your lips dry out because you are dehydrated.  Drink decaffeinated herbal teas if you feel that water is too cold to drink.

2.  Remove dead skin.

These are methods I use to exfoliate my lips:
  • Toothbrush method: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to exfoliate - be gentle!  You can apply lip balm before rubbing with the toothbrush.  Do not do this every day.
  • Wash-cloth method: Get a washcloth and run it under some warm water.  Make sure it is not too hot, and then squeeze it out to remove excess water.  Rub the washcloth over your lips.  Don't rub them too hard.

3.  Sleep with the lip balm on your lips overnight.  I keep my favourite lip balm on my bedside table and apply it every night.

4.  Never lick your lips.  Saliva is acidic (to help dissolve food) and therefore dehydrates your lips even more.

5.  Make sure you always carry a lip balm with you.  Remember to re-apply throughout the day.

Nails Of The Day (NOTD): Valentine’s Day nail art

February 08, 2012 4 Comments
Hello everyone!

Valentine’s Day is almost here, and although I don’t celebrate it, I thought it would be fun to decorate my nails for the occasion!

This is what my V-Day inspired nails look like!

Here's a step by step tutorial:

  •  Apply a base coat (to keep your polish from staining your nails) and let it dry completely

  • Now take small pieces of tape, and stick them where you do not want any red nail polish.

  • Next, take your red nail polish and paint the tip of each fingernail.  Let this layer dry really well before removing the tape.

  • Once the red polish is completely dry, remove the tape very slowly.

  • Now paint a small heart on each fingernail.  This is very easy; just draw a “V” shape!

  • Lastly, apply a clear top coat and you’re done.

Let me know if you like my V-Day inspired nails!  I would also like to know; what type of posts would you like to see on Skin Care Suggestions?

DIY: Deep cleansing pore strips

February 06, 2012 2 Comments
Hello everyone!

A few years back, I used to buy commercially available pore cleansing strips.  I eventually stopped using them because they were very difficult to remove once dry.  Luckily, it’s very easy to make pore cleansing strips at home.  Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 egg white
  • paper towel/kitchen paper (more resistant than tissue)
  •  a bowl
  • a whisk or fork

egg

Benefits of egg whites for the skin:
Egg whites are a good source of protein, and thus can be used to heal and rebuild the skin.  The protein content in egg whites helps to absorb excess oil in the skin and can also provide a temporary reduction in wrinkles and give the skin a smoother look.  Besides, the enzyme Lysozyme preserves the skin's natural elasticity and tightening pores.

Method:
  • Wash and steam your face to make blackhead extraction easier.
  • Separate the egg white from the yolk and whisk the egg white.

egg white

  • Cut strip/s from a paper towel.

I use 2 strips (1 for my nose and 1 for my chin)

  • Spread the egg white on the area/s you want to apply the strip/s.
  • Apply the strip/s.
  • Using a brush, apply some more egg white on the strip/s.
  • You can apply the remaining egg white to your face and neck, as a facial mask.
  • Make sure to leave the strip/s on until completely dry, and then remove carefully.

This is what the strips look like after use! ;)

Blackheads and impurities will stick to the strip/s, clearing your pores!  Finally, wash your face, tone and moisturise as usual.

Tell me, have you ever tried DIY cleansing strips?  What's your opinion?

Nails Of The Day (NOTD): Neon, polka dots and glitter?!

February 02, 2012 0 Comments
Hello everyone!

Today I wasn’t sure how I was going to do my nails, so I combined three of my favourite looks in one.

A bright neon colour, polka dots and glitter!

First I applied a single coat of base coat, and then I applied one coat of Tangerine nail polish.

Next, I dipped the rounded ends of a bobby pin in the Red nail polish and painted three dots in the middle of each nail. (You don’t need a professional dotting tool for this design.)

Then, I applied a coat of Silver and Red glitter nail polish.  And finally, I sealed with a coat of top coat.

I think the combination of bright neon colour, polka dots and glitter looks quite good.  What do you think?  I hope you enjoyed this post.
