Favourite curl creams / leave-in conditioners of 2020

January 03, 2021 1 Comments
Hello everyone and Happy New Year!

In this first post of the year, I want to share with you some of my favourite hair care products.  As I previously told you; I've been wearing my hair, exclusively, in its naturally wavy/curly state (2c/3a) since June 2019.  Using a curl cream or a leave-in conditioner is an important step in my curly routine, one I cannot skip.

Here are the four (4) hair creams I purchased and repurchased in 2020...

curl creams and leave-in conditioners

The reason I use four different leave-ins is that I rotate between them, and use the cream that my hair needs on that particularly wash day.  Your hair should maintain a balance between moisture and protein and finding and maintaining the balance between these two is critical for achieving and maintaining healthy hair.  Neither protein nor moisture can work well without the other.

When my hair feels a bit dry and is in dire need of moisture, I use the Garnier Fructis Aloe Vera Air-Dry Cream.  This product is very moisture-rich and it does an amazing job at hydrating dry hair.  It is ideal for dehydrated hair, highly moisturising, with aloe vera extract and vegetable glycerin.

On the other end of the spectrum, if my hair feels over moisturised and needs protein, I use the Garnier Fructis Hydra Liss 10 in 1 Air Dry Cream.  This product is rich in protein and it also acts as a heat protectant.  In fact, it claims to be a ten actions in one product; heat protection, anti-frizz, anti-humidity, anti-breakage, anti-split ends, repairs, moisturises, softens, gives shine and does not weight down hair.  This leave-in treatment is enriched with argan oil and liquid amino-keratin.

I use the Suave Professionals Curl Defining Cream (with natural shea butter and pure coconut oil) when my hair is balanced and doesn't need more moisture than protein or vice versa.  Coconut oil does not contain proteins itself, it is composed of approximately 50% lauric acid which helps restore and strengthen the protein structure of your hair.  This product enhances my natural curl pattern and helps fight frizz while adding moisture and shine.  I only use a small amount of this cream as it tends to weigh down my hair if I use too much.

The Garnier Fructis Hydra Ricci Air-Dry Cream, has a little bit of hold, that the other three hair cream I use do not.  It does a good job at defining my curls, however, I still need to use a mousse or gel on top for hold (as I do with any cream I use).  This leave-in treatment is enriched with pistachio oil and in fact, it spells just like pistachio.

These products are very affordable and work well for my hair type.  If you use strictly CG (curly girl method) approved products, you can try the Garnier Fructis Aloe Vera Air Dry Cream; it is the only one of the four hair creams I mentioned that is silicone-free.

Personally, I do not use sulphates or silicones in my shampoos and conditioners, but I don't mind using silicone in my stylers.  Here in Malta, the air is very humid all year round and the silicone in my stylers create a barrier against the moisture in the air.  I tried following the curly girl method to a T but my hair loves silicone curl creams and leave-in conditioners.

What are your favourite leave-in hair products?

Wishing you a year fully loaded with happiness.

February 2017 favourites

March 02, 2017 0 Comments
Hello everyone!

I haven't written a favourites post in a while, almost 6 months to be exact, oops!  This was my last favourites post: End of summer favourites, back in September 2016.  But I have been trying out and loving some new things recently so today I want to share my current beauty essentials.  I'm absolutely obsessed with the four beauty products I mention below,  these are all great products that also happen to be very affordable!  Check them out...

Denman Scalp Massage Brush

I use this brush in the shower to massage my scalp with the soft plastic pins while shampooing and to detangle my hair while conditioning.  I also use it to distribute my leave-in products evenly.  I even use this scalp massager when I colour my hair to make sure I remove any hair dye from my scalp.

Cien All-In-One BB Cream  (light)

This product aims to correct imperfections, even out skin tone, soften the skin, reduce wrinkles and provide 24h hydration.  I have to say I'm very impressed with this BB cream, it matches my skin tone, blends really easily and evens out my complexion.  My skin looks hydrated and healthier after application.

Silicone Face Cleansing Brush

This silicone brush is the best face cleansing brush I tried thus far.  It is extremely soft and flexible, making it very gentle on the skin.  If you’re new to cleansing tools and want to give one a try, this silicone pad is the easiest to use and the most budget-friendly.  The tiny bristles massage the debris out of the pores, while the larger bumps exfoliate and soften the skin.  I use the larger bumps to exfoliate my nose and chin.  Right now it's on sale at only $1.99 - Silicone Facial Cleaning Brush with Box.  I got one for my mum and she love it as well

Tinkle Eyebrow Razors

These razors are meant to sculpt eyebrows and remove peach fuzz and that's precisely why I use them.  Since I started growing back my eyebrows, a few years ago, I stopped tweezing altogether and only shape them using these eyebrow razors: Tinkle Eyebrow Razors.  It's a very quick and simple way to shape your brows.

Hello everyone!

I haven't done a tag post in a while, so today I'm doing the Ride or Die Make-up Tag.  This tag was created by Jaclyn Hill on YouTube.  Her rules are simple: "List your ride or die cosmetic products from each category (foundation, blush, mascara, lip products, etc.).  If you could only take ONE from each category to a desert island, which would you choose?"

Here's a list of my ride or die cosmetics:

You can read my first "beauty secret" post to find out why this product works so well as a make-up primer.

End of summer favourites

September 16, 2016 0 Comments
Hello everyone!

Summer is coming to a close, and in honour of all the summer days I've enjoyed these past months I thought I'd rave about my favourite beauty products.  Some, of course, I will keep using through autumn...

Hair care products
This summer I cut my hair several times, currently it's at collarbone length and I love it.  My hair is wavy and frizzy so I've been straightening it a lot this summer, since I find it easier to manage that way.  However my hair tends to look oily by the second day and I will not heat style my hair more than once a week.  Luckily I found three amazing products that solved all of my hair problems.

Yves Rocher Botanical Hair Repair Oil
This is a pre-poo (pre-wash) oil is enriched with restorative babassu, jojoba and macadamia oils to nourish the scalp and strengthen the hair.  Contains more than 99% natural ingredients.  I apply it twice a week to dry hair before shampooing, leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash my hair.  My hair feels soft, hydrated and virtually frizz-free!

Aussie Miracle Recharge (Take the Heat Conditioning Spray)
This product is enriched with Australian jojoba seed oil, and also contains the hair-penetrating ingredient panthenol.  I've used quite a few heat protectants in the past and some tend to tangle my hair, this product does the exact opposite.  It is  both a heat protectant and a detangling leave-in conditioner.

Aussie Miracle Dry Shampoo (Mega Instant)
I love this dry shampoo!  It smells great and it cleanses and revives my hair in a matter of minutes!

Make-up
Here's a list of my top 5 summer make-up favourites:

Essence I Love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara
I'm obsessed with this mascara - It gives me the "false lash effect".

Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara (Browny Brows 02)
I've used all kinds of eyebrow products over the years and this is my everyday go-to brow product.   It makes my brows look denser and perfectly defined all day.

Essence Stay All Day 16h Concealer (20 Soft Beige)
A long-lasting concealer with light-reflecting pigments.  Its creamy, soft texture, makes it very easy to apply.  Makes all my skin imperfections disappear.  Love it!

Catrice Prime And Fine Mattifying Powder - Waterproof
This translucent powder withstands humidity and mattifies the skin for hours.

Catrice Made To Stay Smoothing Lip Polish (060 Mission PINKpossible)
This is my favourite lip colour.   This product is amazing; it combines the colour of a lipstick, the durability of stains and lustre of a gloss in one product.

Shower products
These two were my shower must-haves this summer:

Yves Rocher Exfoliating Shower Gel (Organic Raspberry)
The 100% natural fruit seeds gently exfoliate the skin.  Its gentle formula allows for daily use.  It's also paraben free and has a biodegradable formula

Nivea In-Shower Body Moisturiser (Indulging Honey)
I find in-shower lotions to be the most convenient way to moisturise.  This one if my favourite because I just adore the sweet honey scent.

That's all for now.  These were my 10
favourites beauty product this summer.  What were your favourites of the summer?

May favourites

June 05, 2014 0 Comments
Hello everyone!

It's time for another monthly favourites.  Take a look at what I've been loving during the month of May:

Colour Eyeliners from Yesensy Cosmetics and Max Factor
During the Spring and Summer months I love to wear simple eye make-up with a pop of colour, and May was no exception.  These are four of my favourites - Yesensy Cosmetics Eyeliners in Gold, Emerald Green and Lilac (Lilac is my current favourite!) and Max Factor Kohl Pencil in Ice Blue

Garnier Fructis Hydra-Ricci (Curl & Shine) Fortifying Hair Mask
I almost finished the mask for curly hair I mentioned in my March favourites, the Garnier Fructis Hydra-Ricci Fortifying Hair Mask.  Its formula enriched with bamboo sap, claims to define and nourish curls for 48h.  It's supposed to give the curls a "spring effect" and act as a barrier against humidity and frizz.  I really like this mask.  Sometimes I also use the leave-in conditioner from the same line but my hair loves the mask way more than the leave-in.  I think the mask helps with curl definition, just as it claims.

Dia Eye Make-up Remover
I was on the market for a new eye make-up remover. The one I've been using, the Eye Make-up Remover for Sensitive Skin from Simple, stings and irritates my eyes.  I love the Dia Eye Make-up Remover!  Its formula is strong enough to remove eye make-up easily, even waterproof make-up, and yet gentle enough not to irritate my sensitive eyes.

Glycerin and Rose Water Toner
As I already mentioned in a previous post, I'm using a new toner; the glycerin and rose water spray.  I absolutely love it.  Click here for more information.

April favourites

May 03, 2014 3 Comments
Hello everyone!

For me last month was all about prepping my skin and my hair for "the big event".  My brother got married on Friday 25th and I was his witness.  :)

Without further ado, here are my April beauty favourites:

Holland & Barrett Aloe Vera Gel Bio Active Skin Treatment + Vitamin E Capsules (100iu)

I usually mix the content of a capsule of vitamin E with a blob of Aloe vera and use instead of my night cream a couple of times a week.  During the month of April, I applied this mixture more often than that.  Both ingredients help to heal and regenerate the skin.  Whenever I use Aloe vera and vitamin E at night, I wake up to glowing, clear, even skin.  I LOVE it!  Both Aloe vera and vitamin E can be used for active acne, acne scars, pigmentation, anti-ageing and dry skin among other skin conditions.

Biafine Topical Emulsion

I use this as a spot treatment on any blemishes I get.  This product also reduces the appearance of acne scars and hyperpigmentation.

Product description:
Biafine is a water-based emulsion formulated for the dressing and management of superficial wounds, minor abrasions, dermal ulcers, donor sites, 1st and 2nd-degree burns, including sunburns, and radiation dermatitis.  Biafine provides an optimum moist environment for the healing process and isolates the wound from harmful germs and other external contamination.

Pure Coconut Oil + Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut Conditioner

I melt some coconut oil, mix it with my Suave conditioner and distribute it evenly on my hair.  Then I tie my hair in a top knot with a spring hair tie and go to sleep.  The next morning I cleanse my hair as usual.  This treatment leaves my hair so soft, I don't need to apply any leave-in products whenever I use it.  No serum, no leave in conditioner, no anti-frizz cream...NOTHING!  This is huge for me, my hair usually turns into a frizz ball as soon as it dries if I don't use any leave-in products.  This is by far the best overnight hair treatment I ever used.

What were your April favourites?  Have you used any of my favourites before?  Leave a comment and let me know!

March favourites

April 07, 2014 1 Comments
Hello everyone!

It's time for another favourites post.  These are four of my favourite beauty products from last month!

Garnier Fructis Oil Repair 3 Ultra Nourishing Mask
I tried a bunch of different hair masks and this is one of my favourites.  This hair mask is enriched with 3 active oil; olive, avocado and shea-butter, to nourish and repair dry, damaged and dull hair.  I use it as a deep conditioner and I really love it.  After washing it out, my hair feels soft and moisturised.

I also love the Garnier Fructis Henna and Blackberry Vinegar hair mask and currently I am trying out their mask for curly hair.  And if you are looking for a DIY hair treatment,  why don't you try my latest DIY hair mask?

Nivea Deodorant Pure & Natural Action
I love this deodorant because it's aluminium-free and lets the skin breathe.  It doesn't clog pores and it claims to offer 48 hour protection.  I also like the delicate jasmine scent.  I don't like using deodorants with strong, overwhelming fragrances.

Maybelline Forever Strong Pro (#76 French Manicure)
This is the only nail polish I wore last month - and that explains the lack of NOTD posts ;).  It has a curved brush which gives you perfect precision and it's enriched with calcium, iron and silica, for stronger nails.  This polish also gives my nails a break from bright and dark colours that can stain the nails.

This is what one coat of #76 looks like on my nails.

Maybelline Master Shape Brow Pencil (Deep Brown)
I love this brow pencil because it's so easy to apply.  I apply clear mascara/brow gel on first, this acts as a primer and makes the pencil last all day.  Then I apply the brow pencil in hair-like strokes and blend colour with the comb on the other side.

Hello everyone!

This is my first monthly favourites post.  Here are some of my favourite beauty products from last month!

St. Ives Naturally Clear Apricot Scrub Blemish Fighting
It claims to gently cleans pores and helps fight  blemishes without over drying.  It's oil-free and has 2% salicylic acid.  I love this scrub and so far it seems to work.

Suave Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil
This oil is infused with argan oil.  I use a few drops on wet hair.  It conditions the hair without weighing it down.

Cien Anti-Aging Hand Cream
It's intensely moisturising and protects against sun damage.  It is very rich and a little goes a very long way.

Sibella Lip Balm
This is my second tube!  It smells great and it's very moisturising.  Definitely one of my favourite lip balms ever!
