Beauty hack | You need to put this on your lips!

January 22, 2022 1 Comments

Hello everyone!

My previous post was about preventing chapped lips caused by wearing face masks. This post is also all about lip care. This time I want to share a beauty hack with you!

When it comes to anti-ageing skincare, lips tend to be neglected. Ironically, lips are one of the first and most prominent areas that show signs of ageing. As we age, lips start losing volume and lines and wrinkles accumulate over time. If you're a smoker or someone with the habit of puckering your lips, wrinkles can form sooner than you think.

The skin around the eyes and on the lips is very similar. In fact, you can find many eye-lip combo creams on the market. Both areas are made up of the thinnest skin on the face. Because the skin is so thin, these areas also lack sebaceous glands. Since the skin on these areas doesn't produce any oil, both areas are more prone to dryness, which means that they’re also prone to showing signs of ageing faster than other parts of the face. Additionally, the lip area is constantly moving, so like the eye area, it's even more prone to lines and wrinkles.

This is why it makes sense to use your eye cream for both the eye and lip area. Eye cream is made with extra-nourishing ingredients. You just have to add your leftover eye cream or serum to your lips (and upper lip) after dabbing your eye area!

Will you be using eye cream on your lips too?

VIVANT SKIN CARE Wink Eye Rejuvenation Cream | Review

November 25, 2015 1 Comments
Hello everyone!

Today I'm reviewing
Wink.  Wink Eye Rejuvenation Cream  is from VIVANT Skin Care, whose potent, medically-based products were formulated by James E. Fulton, M.D., Ph.D., the co-developer of Retin-A ®.

Product description:

Vivant Skin Care Wink Eye Rejuvenation Cream - 0.5 fl oz (14.8 ml)

Combines vitamin A propionate, peptides, hyaluronic acid and kojic acid to soften fine lines, brighten dark circles, and reduce puffiness, giving skin a more youthful appearance.

Price:

$57.50
from Vivant Skin Care website and Amazon

Skin Types:

All

Directions:

For best results, begin using Wink every other day for the first two weeks, progressing to daily use and eventually, as your skin tolerates it, twice daily. This formulation is gentle enough to be used on any sensitive area, such as the neck and décolleté.

Key Ingredients:
  • VitaminA diminishes the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and crow’s feet and protects against further photoaging and free radical damage.
  • Oligopeptides stimulate the production of naturally-occurring collagen, hyaluronic acid and elastin, which are lost with advancing age.
  • Kojicacid, derived from Japanese mushrooms, lightens the skin and prevents pigmentation.
  • Caffeine brightens dark circles and eliminates puffiness around the eyes.
  • Aloe is an anti-inflammatory agent that leaves the delicate eye area soothed.
  • Oatextracts soothe the skin, locking in moisture and further protecting the skin.
  • Grape seed oil helps tighten the skin and is a potent antioxidant and hydrator with anti-inflammatory properties.

The Benefits of Vivant Wink Eye Rejuvenation Cream:

A high-performance formulation of antioxidant and free radical-fighting ingredients, Wink combines Vitamin A with Oligopeptides, caffeine and grape seed oil to soften fine lines, lighten dark circles, and reduce puffiness.  This concentrated, age-defying formulation also leaves skin looking brighter, giving the skin a more youthful appearance.

My experience:

Vivant Skin Care Wink Eye Rejuvenation Cream has a very thick consistency.  It has a very pale pink colour and comes in a plastic container with a pump dispenser.  It has a light scent, and does not irritate my eyes.  The cream is not greasy and it is absorbed very quickly by my skin.  I love that!

The skin around my eye area really does feel softer, smoother and tighter.  However, I cannot really say much about dark circles and puffiness under my eyes because I don't have that problem.  I recommend Wink Eye Rejuvenation Cream to anyone looking to upgrade or begin an eye care regimen.  It can also be used during the day underneath a concealer with SPF This eye cream really does give my eye area, and my face,  a more youthful appearance.  It really works!

Premier Dead Sea Eye Duet Kit Review

June 11, 2014 1 Comments
Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Hello everyone!

I recently had the opportunity to try two amazing luxury skincare products from Dead Sea Premier Cosmetics Laboratories Ltd.

Dead Sea Premier Cosmetics Laboratories is an Israeli cosmetics and skincare company that manufactures its products using mineral components extracted from the Dead Sea.  It was founded in 1990 and is part of Hadan Group, which has been specializing in cosmetics since 1979. (Wikipedia)

Dead Sea Premier’s philosophy binds together two elements: the glorious wisdom of nature and advanced scientific technology.  Premier takes natural plant extracts and minerals from the Dead Sea and by utilizing patented and cutting-edge technology, makes luxurious, effective skin-care that far exceeds your best imagination about beautiful skin.

Product description:

Premier Dead Sea Eye Duet Kit Limited Edition - Eye Serum (35ml) and Eye Cream (35ml)

Eye Serum - A secret composition of soothing active ingredients specially adapted to nourish the sensitive skin around the eye area. It performs triple firming actions for rejuvenation, moisturisation, and anti-ageing. This unique Liposome Complex and oil-free serum moisturizes the skin causing a lifting effect. Thus, wrinkles are reduced, the skin is smoothed and rejuvenated, skin tone is restored, and its structure reinforced.
Eye Cream - This ultra-modern formula is suitable for all skin types. It consists of the best anti-ageing ingredients: Dead Sea minerals, Liposome Complex, Dunaliella Seaweed, natural Aloe Vera, Oxygen, Vitamins E and A. It moisturizes and hydrates the very delicate skin around the eyes. It helps diminish dryness and fine lines and reduces puffiness.
Price:

556.59  from the European website and $599.99 from the USA website

Directions for use:

Eye Serum - Prior to application cleanse the contour of the eye. Apply 2 to 5 drops onto fingertips and massage gently onto the delicate eye area. Use twice daily. For best results, Eye Cream should be applied after the serum has been absorbed into the skin.
Eye Cream - Gently massage the cream in circular soft movements around the eyes. Apply make-up as desired.
Ingredients:

My experience:

The limited edition box alone is enough to impress you.  The box is spacious and it holds the cream and serum intact.  From the packaging itself, you can tell that it is a luxurious product.  Both the eye cream and eye serum come in a blue-green glass packaging with a golden cap.  The eye serum comes in a bottle with a pump while the cream comes in a round jar.

The eye serum is a clear gel and you need to dab only a small drop.  The serum spreads easily and dries quickly.

When you first open the eye cream jar you will find a seal which needs to be removed to take out the product.  There is an inner cap that keeps the eye cream from getting on the lid.  The eye cream is rich and creamy and it hydrates and moisturises the eye area.  Like the serum, it is also absorbed quickly by the skin.

I don't have any lines or wrinkles around my eye area but I can still see the difference on the days and nights I use these two products.  The skin around the eye area looks and feels smoother and healthier.  My mother, who is 55, also tried this kit and she swears that her fine lines and wrinkles appear reduced.

I know that this kit is pricey but if you really want to see instant results and can afford to splurge on high quality, luxury skincare products, the Premier Dead Sea Eye Duet Kit is definitely worth a try.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

8 Tips for younger looking skin

February 28, 2014 3 Comments
Hello everyone!

We all want clear, healthy and young-looking skin.  Here are a few things you can do to prevent premature aging.

Drink plenty of water...
Simply put, soft drinks, caffeine and alcohol dehydrate you; water re-hydrates you.  Plus, water assists with circulation of vitamins and minerals.

Don’t use soap...
Switch to a gentle, soap-free cleanser.  Soap dries the skin and strips it of all natural oils.  Soap is also a detergent and may contain harsh agents like SLS.  It can also clog up your pores.

Don't forget to moisturise...
Look for lightweight or water-based moisturisers which are less prone to clog your pores.

Use an eye cream...
Products formulated for the area around your eyes give you more nutrients than your regular moisturiser.  You should use an eye cream if you have issues like, eye puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles around the eye area (crow's feet).  A regular face moisturiser will not help you with these issues.

Wear sunscreen everyday...
Sunscreen is not just for the  summer.  Everyone, regardless of skin type, should be wearing a sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15 daily.  Choose one with a matte finish so make-up goes over it well.

Don’t wait until bedtime to wash your face...
Wash your face as soon as you come home and follow up with a rich moisturiser.  Even if you don’t wear make-up, you need to cleanse your skin from pollution and dust.

Use natural skin care ingredients...
If you are not new to this blog, you already knew that fruits and vegetables make the best skin care ingredients.  Keep your kitchen pantry well stocked for DIY beauty recipes such as this one; DIY: Natural anti-wrinkle.

Lead a healthy lifestyle...
Stick to a healthy eating plan, exercise regularly and get at least 7 hours of sleep.

Natural remedies for dark eye circles

February 11, 2013 6 Comments

Hello everyone!

Do you have dark under eye circles yet you do not want to try expensive creams?  Then save your money and head to your kitchen!

Natural remedies for dark eye circles:

Tomato paste
Mix 1 teaspoon of fresh tomato juice and ½ a teaspoon of lemon juice.  Apply it gently on the skin under your eyes with a cotton ball and let it rest for 10 minutes.  Rinse thoroughly with water.

Cucumber or Potato
You can apply any of these two on your eyes to diminish darkness and swelling.  Slice the cucumber or grate the potato before putting it onto the skin around your eyes.  You may also use the juice of either one of them and dab it on the skin with a cotton ball.

Tea bags
Simply put on a warm or cold teabag on each of your eye and let it rest there for a few minutes.

Almond oil
Regularly massaging the under eye area with almond oil is one of the best natural remedies for getting rid of under eye circles because it promotes circulation.  Leave the nourishing oil on your skin overnight.

Ice cubes
This will instantly reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness around the eyes.  Read The beauty benefits of ice for more information.

Crushed mint
Fresh mint has a cooling effect which immediately soothes tired eyes while getting rid of dark circles.  Put crushed mint leaves over the skin around your eyes and let them rest there for few minutes.

Tips:
  • Stop smoking!  Smoking contributes to poor circulation.
  • Drink around 8-10 glasses of water a day to promotes proper circulation of blood around your eyes.
  • Aside from the remedies mentioned, it is also important that you get enough sleep.
  • Be reminded that not all of these remedies will work for you.  So I suggest you try out a few and see which ones work best!
  • These remedies will not make your dark circles disappear overnight.  So, be patient and continue the natural treatment for at least a few weeks.
  • In certain individuals, dark circles can only be reduced but cannot be removed completely.
I hope you find this helpful!

XOXO

Eye cream or no eye cream?

October 04, 2011 0 Comments
Have you ever wondered if you really need to use an eye cream?  Can you use your daily moisturiser around the eye area?

Some say it’s an absolute must to use an eye cream, while others disagree.  My personal opinion is that it depends.
In theory, you should use a different product that is formulated for sensitive skin around the eye area.  Facial moisturisers are formulated for the skin on the face and therefore are not ophthalmologist tested (i.e. not specifically tested and certified as safe to use near the eyes), and therefore can also cause irritation.
Then again, some facial moisturisers are safe to use all over your face and neck, including the eye area.  When this is the case it is clearly written in the product’s instructions.  If that’s not the case, with your daily face cream, you still need to use an eye cream to keep the sensitive skin around your eyes properly hydrated.
Besides, eye cream can help you target certain issues you may have now or later in life.  You should use an eye cream if you have issues like eye puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles around the eye area (crow's feet).  A regular face cream will not help you with these issues.
Since the skin around the eyes is typically one of the first places to start showing wrinkles, adding hydration to the area by using a specific eye cream can never hurt.

closed eye

How to apply:

Gently dab a small amount of eye cream around the eye area with your finger or applicator.  Then, pat the area around the eye to help ensure that the eye cream you initially spread is absorbed into the skin.  Do not rub in or stretch the skin.  Always do this very gently!

Tips:

If you are using a face cream to treat acne, that cream should not be used around the eye area.

Also, if you are using a face cream with resurfacing active ingredients, again, never use around the eye area because those ingredients are too harsh for such sensitive skin.

Do you use an eye cream?  Which one is your favourite?  I want to know your opinion.
