The beauty benefits of exercise

September 03, 2014 1 Comments
Hello everyone!

Did you know that besides slimming down and adding muscle tone, working out can also benefit your skin and hair?  Exercise is one of the best ways to nourish and revitalise your body

By getting your heart pumping and increasing circulation your skin receives oxygenated blood that boosts detoxification and cell renewal.  A good workout helps regulate hormones and relieve stress that can cause acne and other skin problems.

Breaking a sweat allows more blood to reach the skin’s surface and deliver nutrients that repair damage from the sun and environmental pollutants. These nutrients also speed up the skin’s collagen production.  As we age our body produces less collagen but the nutrients delivered to the skin during exercise help your skin look younger.  Just make sure to wash your face afterwards!

Regular exercise also improves blood flow to your scalp, keeping your hair strong and healthy

Another benefit of exercise is better sleep.  Working out helps you sleep better and it's not called beauty sleep for nothing.  In deep sleep, the body repair and rebuild body tissues!

That said, exercise alone is not enough, you need to pair your workout with healthy food choices.

I already told you that I love hooping daily.  What is your favourite way to exercise?  Leave a comment and let me know!

Workout skin care: Make-up and working out

September 23, 2011 0 Comments
Happy weekend, everyone!

I already posted two blog posts earlier today, but I still wanted to give you a few tips.

Today’s topic is workout skincare.  Should you wear make-up to work out?  Is it bad for your skin?

The general rule is; don’t work out with full face make-up:

I know that you want to look your best whatever you’re doing, but your skin needs to breathe.  You should always cleanse your face thoroughly before exercising.  Be sure to remove all foundation, since it will melt and mix with the sweat to block pores and cause blemishes.

If you are one of those people who wouldn’t be caught dead without make-up, use mineral make-up.  Mineral make-up is talc-free and won’t clog pores!  You could also use a tinted moisturiser.  Also, make sure that your mascara is waterproof.

It’s important to cleanse again after exercising.  You should rinse your face with cold water; this will tighten the dilated capillaries that have expanded during exercise.  Always follow with your usual day cream.
