September 22, 2021 1 Comments
Hello everyone!

Since today marks the official first day of autumn (fall), I have a special treat for all you DIY beauty lovers. I want to share two new DIY beauty recipes; one for your skin and another for your hair.

All the time spent soaking up rays has undoubtedly affected your skin and hair.  With the help of a few ingredients already in your kitchen, these DIY masks will give you a much-needed boost. Keep scrolling for two (2) DIYs, guaranteed to nurture skin and hair.

hello fall

Nourishing hair mask

I have already posted a DIY banana hair mask and a DIY avocado hair mask on this blog. I also published a vegan alternative! Since post-summer, and post-sun exposure, hair can be especially dry, combining the two for extra nourishment is ideal!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 ripe avocado
  • 1 ripe banana (1/2 for short hair)
  • 2 tablespoons pure coconut/almond/olive oil (whichever you prefer)

Method:

  1. Peel the avocado and the banana.
  2. Blend or mix together until it turns creamy.
  3. Add the coconut/almond/olive oil to the mixture and mix well.
  4. Apply the mixture from hair roots to tips.
  5. Let the hair mask sit in your hair for 30 minutes.
  6. Rinse the mixture out with warm water.

Hydrating face mask

This is a recipe for and another avocado mask, this time for your face!

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons mashed avocado
  • 1 teaspoon aloe vera gel
  • 1 teaspoon plain dairy-free coconut yoghurt
  • 1 teaspoon avocado oil (or jojoba/pumpkin seed/rosehip oil)

Method:

  1. In a small bowl, mix together all ingredients.
  2. Apply to clean dry skin.
  3. Leave on for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Rinse off using a washcloth.

DIY: Vegan hair mask

May 29, 2018 0 Comments
Hello everyone!

I noticed that I haven't posted a DIY hair mask recipe in years, so today I want to share my favourite homemade vegan hair mask.  Check it out...

Ingredients:

These natural ingredients will give your hair intense moisture to bring its shine and health back.  The oils in avocado are easily absorbed by the hair.  Also, agave syrup attracts and locks moisture while olive oil moisturises and makes the syrup manageable.

DIY: Vegan hair mask

Method:
  1. Mash a whole overripe avocado into a bowl.
  2. Add ½ cup of agave syrup.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and mix well.
  4. Massage the mixture into damp hair and leave it on for 30 minutes.
  5. Rinse the mask off completely.

You can apply this vegan hair mask as regularly as every week, given that natural ingredients have no adverse side effects.

DIY: Avocado hair mask

October 26, 2011 0 Comments
Hello everyone!

Have you ever tried making your own hair masks?  Hair masks help you to nourish and improve the condition of your hair.

One of the most effective hair masks is the avocado mask.  Avocados contain minerals, vitamins and fatty acids that can add shine to your hair.  Of course, you can buy avocado hair masks, but making your own is very easy and inexpensive.  Besides, homemade masks do not include any chemicals and harmful ingredients.  An avocado mask works as a natural deep conditioner and can help restore shine to dry and damaged hair.
This is a simple version of a DIY avocado hair mask with few, yet very effective ingredients.  It’s very quick and easy to prepare.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe avocado (½ for short hair)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons pure coconut/almond/olive oil (whichever you prefer)

avocado in plate

Method:
  • Peel the avocado and remove the pit.
  • Mash the avocado and make sure it’s free of big chunks.
  • Mix the coconut/almond/olive oil and raw honey with the avocado.
  • Blend the mixture until it turns creamy.
  • Apply the mixture from roots to tips onto clean, towel-dried hair.
  • Let the avocado hair mask sit in your hair for 30 minutes.  If you suffer from a dry, flaky scalp, massage the mixture into your scalp.
  • Rinse the mixture out with warm water.
  • Shampoo and condition as usual.

Use this mask twice a month to maintain soft, shiny and healthy hair.
