Hair growth chart

January 27, 2013 0 Comments

Hello everyone!
Check out this hair growth chart from!

5 tips for faster, healthier hair growth:

  1. Condition & detangle: Comb and detangle regularly with fingers or a wide-tooth comb to strengthen the muscles that hold each hair in place.  Deep condition every 2-3 days to replenish moisture.
  2. Massage your scalp: Products containing peppermint or eucalyptus oil can increase blood flow to your follicles.  Massage your scalp for 3 minutes before washing to add an extra inch of hair growth in one year.
  3. Feed your hair: Fruits and vegetables like asparagus, broccoli, collard greens, honeydew and mango contain nutrients essential to healthy hair.  Take supplements that contain folic acid and vitamins A,B,C,E and D.
  4. Trim only when needed: Get trims only when you have split ends or breakage.  If you don’t see any damage six weeks or six months after your last trim, then leave it alone.
  5. Handle with care: Avoid blow-drying  hot curling irons, colouring, perming, high winds and excessive hair twisting. Protect those locks by sealing your ends with oil and sleeping on a satin pillowcase

Mostly Bs: Laid-back

You are a hippy at heart! Styling tools and hair gel are like a foreign language to you. You are all about going au naturel. More than three minutes spent on your hair is time wasted that could have been spent doing something much more spiritually fulfilling, like yoga.

Mostly Cs: Dramatic

You are confident, bold and like to experiment with styles and colours  which means you have a daring side. You hate the norm, are exhilarated by life’s curve balls and enjoy being in the spotlight for your unique sense of style and zest for life.

Mostly Ds: Assertive

You prefer refined, polished styling that always looks professional. You are detail-oriented, if not a bit anal-retentive, and thrive on order and discipline - right down to believing every hair on your head has a proper place. You walk tall and speak your mind authoritatively.

The beauty benefits of ice

January 13, 2013 0 Comments

Hello everyone!
Have you ever heard about frozen facials?  Rubbing ice cubes on the face is believed to improve circulation as well as ward off wrinkles and premature ageing.

The beauty benefits of ice:
Frozen facial - You can freeze the juice of your favourite fruits to transform into ice cubes.  You can rub these ice cubes of fruits on your face to get the instant affect of anti-oxidants that gives a radiant complexion.

Prime skin - Before applying make-up, rub ice cubes on your face, focusing on areas with enlarged pores. The cold water will cause pores to reduce in size and minimize their appearance under make-up.

De-puff eyes - Placing ice cubes on your tired and worn-out eyes can give a soothing and cooling effect to your eyes instantly.  For a stronger effect, freeze cubes of caffeinated black tea, or sliced cucumbers.

Under-eye circles - You can take out the juice of cucumber and mix it with the boiled rose water.  And freeze this mixture to keep on your under-eye circles.  It will help in fading away dark circles.  Rose water should be cooled down before freezing.  Find out more about the Beauty uses of rose water!

Acne - Ice decreases inflammation, reduces redness and can even relieve the pain associated with acne.
Sunburn - If you had got a bad sunburn, then you can wrap ice cubes in a cloth and rub on the sunburn affected areas.  You will feel an instant relief.  For more information about sunburn, read this: SOSSunburn

Tip: Use ice cubes wrapped in a clean cloth.  Applying ice cubes straight to your skin can cause capillaries under the skin to break.

I hope you find this helpful!

New Year's beauty resolutions

January 03, 2013 0 Comments

Happy 2013 everyone!

Usually I don’t make any New Year’s resolutions but this year I decided to make a list of my “beauty resolutions”...

My 2013 beauty resolutions:
  • Exfoliate face and body once a week.
  • Wear SPF 15 or higher year-round, even during the winter months.
  • Stop squinting!!  It can deepen fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and on the forehead.  Never leave the house without dark sunglasses.
  • Make nail polish last longer and avoid staining nails with dark colours by applying a base coat.
  • Work out at least three times a week.  This will stimulate blood flow and circulation, resulting in healthier skin and body.
  • Get the most out of a hair treatment by squeezing excess water from the hair before applying.  This allows it to effectively penetrate the hair shaft.
  • Don’t pull back hair too tightly.  Tight hair styles can cause breakage.
  • Try out new DIY beauty recipes.

What are your beauty resolutions for 2013?  Share them in the comments below! J
