Why you should stop using regular hair towels

January 04, 2023 0 Comments

Hello everyone!

Do you want healthy and luscious hair? You probably use the perfect shampoo and conditioner and have a few hair masks and leave-in hair products to help keep your locks hydrated. You think you have the whole hair-washing routine down, but did you know that your towel might be damaging your hair?

Most people have the habit of drying their hair with a terry towel as soon as they step out of the shower. That said, this practice has to stop. As I told you in my previous post, I discovered the Curly Girl Method over a decade ago. Although I do not follow all the "rules", one permanent change I made back then was, ditching the terrycloth towel, and I did not use one on my hair ever since.

Drying wet strands with a bath towel can seriously damage the hair. Rubbing your hair with a towel can lead to excessive hair breakage. Keep in mind that the hair gets more elasticated when wet, making it more prone to breakage. The hair shaft can be roughed up during the drying process when you wring out your hair or squeeze it too hard with a towel. This can also cause hair to become extremely frizzy.

Reaching out for a thick towel and wrapping your hair up in a turban is not suggested either. The coarse texture and dryness of a cotton or terry cloth towel can also damage the hair. Your best option is to use a microfiber fabric towel or a t-shirt. Its finer threads are gentle on the hair and absorb the right amount of moisture while reducing frizz. Just a gentle press to remove the moisture is enough. Water causes the hair cuticle to swell and open up, leaving the hair prone to frizz and damage.

Microfiber towels are a foolproof way to absorb water faster, be more gentle on your hair, and reduce frizz. A microfiber towel takes the moisture out of your mane way faster than a regular terrycloth towel. The quicker you remove excess water from your hair, the better.

So, from now on, apart from spending your time and money on expensive hair-care products, cuts and treatments, make sure to avoid rubbing your hair with a rough towel. It might be harming your beautiful mane.

In conclusion...

  • Avoid using a traditional terry cloth towel; use a T-shirt or microfiber towel instead.
  • Avoid rubbing your hair; dab it gently from the root to the tip instead.

My curl pattern is changing...

January 02, 2023 0 Comments
Hello everyone!

Today I want to talk to you about my curly hair journey. I discovered the Curly Girl Method over a decade ago, and I loved pampering my hair and seeing it curl in a way I did not know it could.

After years of wearing my hair curly, I wanted a change and started straightening it every Saturday. I eventually cut my long hair and wanted to wear my curls again. Luckily, my hair was not damaged and curled as it did before I straightened it. The last time I straightened my hair was in the spring of 2019. Whenever I wear my hair down, it's always in its wavy/curly state. Alternatively, I put it up in a bun.

However, in the last year or so, I noticed my curl pattern was getting looser. I cut it shorter because, as it grows longer, the weight of the hair can cause curls to stretch. Still, to this day, my hair is a much looser wave pattern. Throughout the years, I learned a lot about specific ingredients and hair care products, and I no longer follow the Curly Girl Method. I also cut my own hair following the pigtails cut YouTube video by Manes by Mell.

This is what my hair looked like in 2020...

My hair is healthy and balanced, so those are not the reasons why my pattern is changing. I decided to start documenting my curly hair journey on Instagram to be able to look back at photos and see which products and techniques work and which don't. I will also keep you updated on this blog. So if you are interested in wavy/curly hair, follow me on Instagram @cosette_z.

This is a photo from a few months ago...

I don't have a more recent photo with my hair down, as I find myself wearing my hair up more times than not. I'll try not to put my hair in a tight bun. I'm aware that this type of hairstyle can loosen the curl or wave pattern.

What is your hair texture? Do you ever wish it was different? Leave a comment and let me know.

It's my dog's fourth (4th) birthday! 🎂

January 01, 2023 0 Comments

Hello everyone and Happy New Year!

Today my fur baby turned four! He was his usual happy and playful self and had 2 portions of a delicious home-cooked meal. Today Rascal was pampered by all his favourite humans and had a fun-filled day. He loved being the centre of attention!

I loved this little creature from the first moment his round brown eyes met mine; almost four years ago. I brought him home at only seven weeks old. He will forever have a place in my heart, my house, and my bedroom, where he sleeps in his crate (next to my bed). And now, he also has a place in my room decor, with a few portraits.

Humans and dogs have had a special bond for thousands of years. In fact, human–canine bonding can be traced back to at least 15,000 years ago. For centuries, dogs have been considered man's best friend.

Here are some quotes that highlight this unbreakable bond:

“If you don’t own a dog, at least one, there is not necessarily anything wrong with you, but there may be something wrong with your life.” – Roger A. Caras

“They [dogs] never talk about themselves but listen to you while you talk about yourself, and keep up an appearance of being interested in the conversation.” – Jerome K. Jerome

“Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the centre of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made.” – Roger A. Caras

“You can usually tell that a man is good if he has a dog who loves him.” – W. Bruce Cameron

“I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me, they are the role model for being alive.” – Gilda Radner

“Money can buy you a fine dog, but only love can make him wag his tail.” – Kinky Friedman

“The love of a dog is a pure thing. He gives you a trust which is total. You must not betray it.” – Michel Houellebecq

“Dogs do speak, but only to those who know how to listen.”– Orhan Pamuk

“You know, a dog can snap you out of any kind of bad mood that you’re in faster than you can think of.” – Jill Abramson

I hope you enjoyed this post.

New Year wishes

December 31, 2022 0 Comments

Hello everyone!

It's almost midnight; I'm spending the last minutes of 2022 at home, writing this post with Rascal (my 4-year-old Maltipoo) sleeping by my side. 2023 is almost here! Every year has its ups and downs, and each one shapes who we are today, and who we will be in the future.

Happy New Year

With the new year on the horizon, I wish to embrace it with an open heart and go forward with faith, hope, and courage. As we look forward to 2023 with renewed optimism, I wish you and your family the best in the coming year. I can’t wait to see how this blog and my YouTube channels will grow in the new year. Thank you all for your support!

Talk to you next year!

 Hello everyone, happy Sunday!

Christmas day is only one week away. Have you finished your holiday shopping? I haven't... I need to get busy and finish that shopping ASAP!

As I do every Sunday, in today's post, I will recap the content I published during the week. This week I published three blog posts and a YouTube video

On Monday, I wrote a post about sustainability and how to have a more sustainable Holiday season. Then, on Thursday, I shared some curly girl gift ideas, perfect to buy for yourself or to give to your curly-haired friend or family member. And last but certainly not least, on Saturday, I published another true crime blog post and YouTube video titled "Murder on Christmas Eve".
