Vegetable glycerin for glowing skin!

Image
Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about the many uses of the DIY glycerin and rose water spray .  I've been using this spray, before and after applying my make-up, as I told you in my DIY recipe .  As soon as I started using it, I immediately noticed that my skin was incredibly smooth and my make-up looked  flawless .   I've been  using   distilled rose water for quite some time but   vegetable  glycerin is a new addition to  my skincare routine.  Glycerin has many beauty uses for the skin and hair.  It acts as a humectant, so it attracts water and helps the skin retain moisture.  NOTE : Because of this, it can’t be applied undiluted onto the skin or hair, as it will draw the water out and actually cause dehydration.   To give the hydrating effect we want, it needs to be diluted with water. I mix   1 part glycerin to 10 parts distilled rose water ( see recipe ) .  I used 2 tablespoons of glycerin mixed with 20 tablespoons of rose water to fill the blue bott

Can food allergies cause acne?

Image
Many often associate acne with raging hormones and excessive sebum production; however there are lots of other things that can cause acne.  Did you know that food allergies are the number one cause of acne ? Swelling and inflammation of the skin is one of the symptoms of allergies; acne is simply another kind of inflammation . If you notice acne appearing after you eat a particular food, you may have a   food allergy.  Allergy symptoms may show up hours or even a day later.  Besides, acne doesn’t come and go quickly enough to be associated with food.   Other, more common food allergy symptoms include swelling, hives, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Food allergies are caused by a hypersensitivity of the immune system to the proteins found in particular foods.  The allergic reaction occurs because the immune system mistakes the proteins as an invading substance, such as a virus or bacteria. Common food allergens:    Dairy produc

Honey face

Image
Hello everyone! It is renowned that honey has strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and it has been used as a treatment for wounds and other skin problems for thousands of years. In fact, honey is one of the most common home remedies for acne and acne scars .  It's cheap and 100% natural.  It's also incredibly easy to use.   Honey is very moisturising .  This makes the honey mask ideal for people with dry skin .  If you have oily or combination skin, you can add a few drops of lemon juice to your honey mask.  Lemon juice is also good for treating acne scars, (read Lemons for clear skin for more information) but unlike honey, it may dry your skin.   A teaspoon of honey is enough to cover your entire face.  Apply a thin layer and keep the honey mask on for at least 30 minutes.  If you are patient enough, leave it on for one hour, for optimum results.  The mask will not harden or dry.  Wash the mask off with lukewarm water.  Pad your face dry with

The many benefits of using bath salts

Image
Hello everyone! A long soak in a hot bath can be very relaxing, right? Of course, but adding  bath salts  can dramatically improve the experience. Bath salts come in different colours, scents, and textures; from fine to coarse. But relaxation is not the only benefit of bath salts.   Bath salts also offer many other benefits including certain healing properties . For instance, few people know that adding a little salt to your bath water can actually help improve your circulation. Bath salts are great for easing sore muscles and aching feet and legs. Consequently, those that suffer from muscle spasms, arthritis and back pain can all benefit from the use of bath salts. Bath salts open the pores to purify the skin, cleansing away dirt, sweat, and toxins . They aid in the healing of dry skin, making skin softer and smoother . Salts, such as bath salt, sea salt or Epsom salt, are also good for  exfoliation . Salts can help improve common irritations such as insect bites, mino

Smooth as a baby’s bottom!

A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled upon a skincare forum and a few users were talking about using diaper rash cream on their faces.   They were raving about the amazing effect it had on the skin.   Some of them also claimed that this cream heals acne and prevents breakouts. I was a little sceptical, to tell you the truth, so I decided to do a little research.  If it’s safe to use on babies skin, it is probably safe to use on your face, right?  As it turns out, the active ingredient in diaper rash cream is Zinc oxide !  (A few weeks ago I wrote about the benefits of Zinc oxide , in an earlier post.)  So, I decided to give it a try.  I went to the nearest pharmacy and I chose a Zinc and Castor oil ointment.  Castor oil provides a soothing and moisturising effect on the skin.  Its antioxidant properties help to cleanse the skin and remove toxins.  When used regularly, Castor oil helps flush out oil glands and may help alleviate adult acne. I use this cream in the evening

Scrub your face with sodium bicarbonate!

Image
Hello everyone! Baking soda ( sodium bicarbonate ) is one of the most versatile, money-saving products found in the average household.  It literally has hundreds of uses. But what about baking soda as a skincare product?  It exfoliates the skin and, possibly, even reduces acne. Baking soda makes an excellent exfoliant .  Why?  Because baking soda is coarse, but not too coarse.   It's the perfect consistency for removing dead skin cells.  If applied correctly, it can also be used on sensitive skin. How to use: Mix a teaspoon of the powder to your facial cleanser and add a few drops of water to create a paste.  Massage gently into the skin, like you would with any other exfoliant.  Remember to always moisturise afterwards because this treatment strips the skin's natural oils!  For best results use this two times a week. The same exfoliant can also be used as an acne treatment! Baking soda deeply cleanses the pores, helps blemishes heal faster and also r

Not just an aspirin facial mask!

Image
Hello everyone! I’m sure that many of you have heard about the aspirin mask and its benefits.  For those who do not know; the aspirin mask is a homemade BHA mask available to each and every one of us, inexpensive and highly efficient. Aspirin is known to help significantly with deep cleaning pores and thus contribute to keeping our skin blemish-free.  Aspirin is efficient on existing blemishes as well, helping them heal. To make the mask I do not use aspirin tablets, instead, I use effervescent, water-soluble Aspirin C!  I will explain why. Each tablet of Aspirin C is composed of 400 mg acetylsalicylic acid and 240 mg ascorbic acid ( Vitamin C ). Vitamin C, in skincare, is known for decreasing pigmentation and increase collagen production; it is also an antioxidant and can help reduce skin damage caused by free radicals.  It protects skin from UVA and UVB, still, it cannot substitute sunblock/ s unscreen .  These aspects of vitamin C help to reduce wrin
