My Sculptshe picks

April 18, 2021 0 Comments

Hello everyone!

Today’s post is another fashion related post.   We all know the confidence that the perfect outfit can give us, however, the underwear and/or shapewear that is worn underneath, is even more important to make us look and feel our best.  Shapewear is basically underwear that is designed to temporarily alter the shape of your body, typically to flatten the stomach and make you look slimmer in the outfit you're wearing on top of it.  I was recently introduced to Sculptshe - a brand that mainly focuses on women’s shapewear, bodysuits, waist trainers and activewear; garments that are break-through in their design, manufacturing techniques and materials.

One of the many consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the many lockdowns, is the fact that many of us have gained some weight; mainly due to stress-eating and watching too much Netflix (lack of physical activity).  Luckily, on Sculptshe’s website, you can find various waist and thigh trainers to enhance your appearance.  Such as the Sculptshe 3-in-1 Waist Thigh Eraser Booty Sculptor, linked below (click on the pictures to visit the site).

This 3-in-1 garment will trim your waist, and help you reduce the appearance of cellulite on your thighs as well.

And since we’re on the topic of shapewear, check out my two picks below…

Effective ways to treat cellulite | Tips & DIYs

June 14, 2020 0 Comments
Hello everyone!

Lots of people all over the world are concerned with cellulite.  Anti-cellulite creams can be costly and/or full of chemicals.  Fortunately, there are safer and cheaper DIY recipes, which can be just as effective!  In today’s post, I’m going to show you how to make my favourite, effective homemade anti-cellulite cream.  Before you spend your money on expensive products, you should try this DIY recipe first.

Grapefruit anti-cellulite cream recipe

  • 30 drops grapefruit essential oil
  • 1 cup of coconut oil

  1. Mix grapefruit essential oil and coconut oil together
  2. Store in a glass container - Citrus essential oils are highly concentrated and are full of healthy acidic properties.  Because of this, you should always use glass containers when storing them.
  3. Rub into affected areas for 5 minutes daily

Coconut oil will help hydrate the skin while grapefruit essential oil contains large amounts of the anti-inflammatory enzyme bromelain, which helps break down cellulite.

Note: Coconut oil melts in warm temperatures.  The melting point of coconut oil is generally quoted as being 24 °C (76 °F).  If the temperature is above 24 degrees, the oil will be liquid.  If the temperature is below 24 °C, it will become solid.

If you want a creamier consistency, you can add grapefruit oil to an unscented body lotion.  However, I recommend mixing the essential oil and the lotion directly in the palm of your hand.  Just add a few drops to your lotion before you apply it to the affected areas.  Do not add the grapefruit oil straight into the body lotion bottle!

This is not my first blog post on this topic; I shared a recipe for an anti-cellulite coffee scrub, a few years back.  Here’s the link: DIY: Anti-cellulite scrub.  I prefer the grapefruit anti-cellulite cream recipe over this one, simply because I’m not particularly fond of the smell of coffee.  But other than that, the scrub is also a very effective anti-cellulite!

In another post, I also shared a list of tips that you can use to improve the appearance of cellulite.  You can find all the tips here: Fighting cellulite!

Have a great day!

DIY: Anti-cellulite scrub

Anti-cellulite coffee scrub

Topical caffeine has been shown to reduce the appearance of cellulite. If you suffer from cellulite or simply want to prevent it, make your own scrub, instead of spending money on creams and treatments (that don’t always work).  The coffee scrub is very easy to make, it’s effective and quite inexpensive!

  • Coffee
  • Sugar or sea salt
  • Rosemary essential oil
  • Olive oil

You will need coffee grounds, freshly ground coffee beans or instant coffee. Coffee reduces the appearance of cellulite,  rosemary is well known for its cell regenerating properties, both sugar and sea salt are great exfoliants, and olive oil is an excellent moisturiser.

  • Mix 12 drops of rosemary essential oil with 3 tablespoons of olive oil.
  • Mix 1 part sugar or sea salt with 3 parts coffee.
  • Blend the oil with the coffee and sugar/salt mixture to make a paste.
  • Store in the refrigerator until use.

How to use:
  • Vigorously rub your anti-cellulite scrub onto troubled areas; you can use gloves if you want to.
  • After rubbing all cellulite-prone areas, rinse off the scrub.
  •  Use twice a week for best results.

This homemade scrub is very effective; the only downside is the smell (especially if like me, you don’t like coffee!).  But nonetheless, it's worth a try.

Fighting cellulite!

What is Cellulite?
The truth is almost all women have the dreaded “orange peel-skin” look. Cellulite is found in both overweight and slim women but excess weight makes it even worse.  Cellulite is the accumulation of fat, fluid and toxins that develops under the skin.  It is mostly a women's problem because men tend to have lower percentages of body fat.

There are various anti-cellulite treatments, that include pills, suction machines, creams, wraps and even liposuction.  Still, lifestyle changes through diet and exercise are the best way to help reduce cellulite and fat cell size.

A good anti-cellulite diet includes eating low-fat, low-carb, high fibre foods especially fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.  Although cellulite is hard to eliminate totally if you follow these tips you should see a significant improvement.

  • Drink eight glasses of water per day to flush out any excess sodium that causes fluid retention.  Water flushes toxins out of the body and improves circulation.
  • Eat fruits and vegetables to increase your daily fibre intake.
  • Don’t smoke.  Smoking causes poor blood circulation and contributes to premature ageing and sagging of the skin.
  • Limit coffee and alcohol consumption.
  • Do not eat sugar and sugary snacks.
  • Do not eat fried and fatty foods.
  • Avoid canned foods and other foods high in salt.  Salt increases water retention and makes cellulite worse.
  • Drink herbal teas.
  • No not drink sodas.
  • Eat five small meals four to five times per day.
  • Maintain a normal, healthy body weight.
  • Boost your circulation by using a brush, loofah or a massage glove daily.  Skin brushing (and dry brushing) helps remove dead skin cells, stimulates circulation and boosts your lymphatic flow.  For best results brush every morning using long strokes towards your heart.  You could also massage your skin with almond oil.
  • Moisturise: Putting on any good moisturiser twice a day will help to plump up the skin.
  • Exercise:  Do some sort of cardio for thirty minutes and stretch daily.
  • Now you have the tips you need to begin your body reshaping process and eliminate cellulite.
