The best 10 DIY vegan acne treatments

June 11, 2020 1 Comments
Hello everyone!

This blog is turning 10 in a few months and that means that I have been sharing DIY acne recipes with you, my readers, for almost a decade.  I have been vegan for the last five years and yes, you can still find non-vegan DIY beauty recipes on this blog.  These are namely recipes that include ingredients like yoghurt and honey.  Since June is Acne Awareness Month,  today's post is a roundup of my best ten DIY vegan acne treatments.  This way you can find them all in one handy post.  If you want me to make a roundup post on non-vegan recipes, leave a comment and let me know.

Amongst my top 10, I included; a cleansing method, a toner, two face masks, a scrub, two facial serums, and a spot treatment.  All DIYs are very easy to make, they require very few, simple ingredients and the method is easy to follow.

DIY: Skin lightening serum

March 05, 2017 7 Comments
Hello everyone!
As many of you may already know, I struggled with acne for years.  I have spent a lot of time looking for ways to clear up my acne.  What eventually helped me clear my skin was a clean, vegan diet and using natural, homemade skincare products.  However, I'm still dealing with acne scars on my face.
Before I became vegan, I used honey and yogurt (like my DIY: Greek yoghurt, oatmeal and honey facial mask and my DIY: Micro-dermabrasion pasteto help fade acne scars and both ingredients work really well, but now I'm only using plant-based ingredients.
Today I want to share the all-natural, vegan facial serum I'm currently using.  If you have any form of hyperpigmentation on your skin, you are going to love this DIY!
Ingredients:
  • 1 tbs sweet almond oil
  • 2 drops of lemon essential oil
  • 4 drops of sandalwood essential oil

Sweet almond oil is a wonderful carrier oil and it’s been used for ages to lighten and brighten skin.

Lemon essential oil is well-known for its skin-brightening effects.  Lemon juice is also very effective.

Sandalwood essential oil is a skin lightening, skin brightening oil.  It has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.  It is also high in antioxidants that can help reduce damage caused by free radicals, which promote ageing.

Method:
  1. Combine ingredients in a glass bottle (preferably with a dropper).
  2. Gently turn the bottle to allow the oils to mix well.
  3. Use 3-4 drops on damp, clean skin before bedtime.
  4. Optional - Moisturise as usual.
  5. Use every day for best results.

Notes:
  • Lemon essential oil  increases photosensitivity - you need to protect your skin from the sun while using this serum!
  • This serum will not get rid of indentations or protrusions left behind by acne.  It will only fade the flat red or brown dots left behind by pimples aka post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Have a great day!

DIY: Nourishing body scrub

July 16, 2014 2 Comments
Hello everyone!

Today I want to share a DIY recipe for a nourishing body scrub.  We all know how important it is to nourish our body, and sometimes we forget about our bodies largest organ; the skin.

This natural body scrub is very nourishing, it contains essential natural ingredients like coconut oil and almond oil to help restore moisture and sea salt to exfoliate dead skin cells.  Also, it smells delicious!  Here's the recipe...

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup almond oil
  • 1/2 cup sea salt

Method:

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a mason jar, allow to sit for ingredients to amalgamate.
  2. Apply mixture to your skin and rub in a circular motion.
  3. Rinse with water.
That's all for this quick, easy, money-saving, skin-loving scrub!
