DIY: Deep cleansing hair mask (VEGAN)

August 29, 2020 0 Comments
Hello everyone!
If you live in an area with hard water, chances are your hair is suffering the consequences.  Hard water is full of minerals such as calcium, lime, and magnesium.  While not dangerous, hard water can leave your hair dull and brittle, making it more prone to breakage.  It can also discolour lighter hues and strip colour-treated hair.  Minerals dissolved in hard water create a film on the hair strand, which prevents moisture from penetrating the hair shaft.  This results in dry, dull and tangled hair.  The best way to combat issues related to hard water is to incorporate a deep cleansing mask once a week to eliminate buildup.
The key ingredient in this DIY deep cleansing hair mask is Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)!  I often use ACV in my DIY beauty recipes.  The enzymes and nutrients in ACV make it an amazing natural hair conditioner.
Combined with the goodness of agave and olive oil, this apple cider vinegar hair mask recipe is the ultimate deep cleansing and hair conditioning remedy!
Ingredients:
  • 1 ½ tbsp ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar)
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp agave nectar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3–6 drops essential oil (optional)

Feel free to adjust the proportions according to the length and thickness of your hair.

Keep in mind that you should use wholesome apple cider vinegar, which is RAW, unpasteurized, unfiltered and organic.

Method:
  1. In a bowl mix, all the above ingredients with a spoon until a smooth mask is formed.
  2. Apply the mixture to damp hair from ends to scalp.
  3. Pull hair back and allow the mask to work its magic for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Rinse out completely, no shampoo or conditioner is necessary unless oily residue remains.

ACV nutrients and their benefits for the hair:
  • Ascorbic Acid - Also known as Vitamin C, makes hair grow faster, detoxifies hair, is rich in antioxidants fight free radicals, fights dandruff, and cleanses scalp and hair strands.
  • B-vitamins - Stimulates blood circulation in hair follicles, remedies baldness and hair loss, a remedy for greasy or oily hair, moisturizes hair and leads to shiny silky locks of hair.
  • Acetic acid - Kills off lice and nits, detoxes hair, breaks down chemical product build up in hair, cleanses the scalp of bacteria and germs, fights dandruff, fights smelly scalp.
  • Probiotics - Friendly bacteria fights odour in the scalp, disinfect scalp.

Make sure the accompanying ingredients used are also good quality in order to get the best results.

Role in the hair mask:
  • Olive Oil - Oldest pressed oil known to mankind, rich in antioxidants, hydrates and moisturises hair, powerful hair conditioner.
  • Agave - A soothing hair humectant, which provides moisture and a lustrous shine.

And there you have it; a recipe for the ultimate deep cleansing and hair conditioning hair mask!

Femme Luxe fashion haul on a good hair day

August 16, 2020 1 Comments
Hello everyone!

This past couple of days I published 3 (three) blog posts.  On Friday, I wrote about what kind of earrings you should wear with your protective face mask in a post titled Accessorising during a pandemic.  Then, on Saturday I wrote about My current haircut and in the early hours of this morning, I published a FOTD (Face Of The Day) post in which I wrote about wearing makeup under face masks in a post titled FOTD: Do you wear makeup under your face masks?

Today's post is one of my favourite kind of blog post; a fashion haul!  I love doing this kind of post for a few reasons: first, I love showing you what I get and sharing the links with you so you too can shop my style, if you want to.  Second, I love having an excuse to dress up, and in this case, put on makeup and take some pictures.  Funnily enough, I HATED having my photo taken ever since I can remember.  My childhood photo albums are full of pictures of me pouting or covering my face because I did not want to take photos!  I always was, and still am, an introvert but as you can see I no longer cover my face in my photos. 😂  Still, I prefer to take my own picture as opposed to having my pictures taken!  I am a little bit of a "control freak".

That's enough chit-chat; let me show you the 5 (five) items I got from Femme Luxe.  This time around I ordered  3 (three) t-shirts and 2 (two) loungewear sets.

The first item in this fashion haul is a black t-shirt, featuring a Love YaSelf slogan print with a crew neck.  This tee is both simple and cute!  If you don’t like the black colour, this t-shirt is also available in white with the slogan written in black.

The second clothing item in this haul is actually two; a two-piece that is, a grey short-sleeved crew neck top with matching leggings.  I'm not particularly fond of tracksuits but I'm absolutely obsessed with Femme Luxe loungewear sets, as I told you multiple times in previous blog posts. What's not to love?  These sets are comfy, stylish, practical and very versatile! 💗

The third item I got is a black boxy long-sleeved tie loungewear set, featuring a matching comfy jumper and cuff legged jogger trousers.  You can eighter pair this with a pair of trainers or spice it up with your favourite heels!  See what I mean?  This is why I'm always saying that these sets are very versatile!

The fourth and fifth items are two t-shirts in the same model, in different colours.  If this t-shirt looks familiar, it's probably because I already featured this model in a previous blog post.  I got a black one first and now I got the same t-shirt in lilac and camel.  It's a simple short-sleeved tee with a scoop v neck.

I love both colours!  The lilac t-shirt is very cute and "girly" while the camel one is a very light neutral colour.

As I am typing this the Femme Luxe website is experiencing difficulties, however, the FemmeLuxe app is up and running so be sure to download it to make an order!  Regardless, I still included all the links to the items I featured in this post and you can simply click on the photos to visit the site, once it's back to normal.

I hope you liked this post!  Leave a comment and let me know what's our favourite clothing item from today's haul.

FOTD: Do you wear makeup under your face masks?

Hello everyone!

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic situation, I haven't been wearing makeup; in fact, the last time I can remember putting on makeup was months ago!  I was never the type of person to wear makeup every day but since I've been staying home most of the time and I'm not attending any social events, I found myself missing wearing makeup and feeling more put together.  Whenever I need to go out I'm wearing a face mask and sunglasses or a face shield (aka visor) anyway.  Dermatologists advise that we skip wearing makeup under our face masks.  Beneath a mask, makeup is more likely to clog pores and lead to breakouts.  If makeup is necessary, use only products labelled “non-comedogenic” or “oil-free”.  I have acne-prone skin so for me that means face mask + makeup = breakouts - No thanks!

So yesterday I decided to put on some makeup and take some photos for upcoming blog posts.  If you look closely you can spot this makeup in my previous post and in my next one!  I'm wearing a bb cream because it's way too hot to wear foundation (38°C/100.40°F), grey and gold eyeshadow, a translucent powder, bronzer, concealer (as a highlighter), black mascara and eyeliner, tinted brow mascara and matte liquid lipstick.

My current haircut

August 15, 2020 3 Comments
Hello everyone!

Through the years, my hair has been anywhere from pixie short to knee length long (when I was 9/10).  A few years back I did a tag post where I answered questions about my hair; check it out - Tag post: My hair.  My hair usually flows between a mid-length that is a few inches below my collarbone, to something longer roughly at bra strap length.

My hair right now (August 2020) is pretty long; mid-back length with layers throughout.  I also have soft face-framing layers (grown out bangs).  The shortest layers start just below my chin when curly.  I prefer a u-shaped cut over a v-shape.  Now I trim my hair every 8 (eight) weeks, I used to trim it every 4 (four) weeks until a few months ago when I wanted to keep it shorter.

I've been cutting and dying my own hair since 2007-2008!  I am not encouraging anyone to cut their own hair.  I'm just telling you what I do and how I get this haircut.  If you do not feel confident do not do it.- leave it to the professionals.  But if you have wavey or curly hair and you want to cut your own hair I recommend watching Manes by Mell videos on YouTube.

My hair colour is 7.1, dark ash blond is the name on the box but I describe it more as a lightish brown.  My natural hair colour is a medium brown but since I started going grey at the age of 21 (twenty-one) I felt like I had to colour my hair.
If you are heading in for a hair appointment soon, I highly suggest taking photos of whatever haircut you are going for!  It’s helpful to discuss what you like and don’t like about each of the photos you bring so the stylist can have a clear vision of your hair goals!
I hope you are having a great hair day!

Accessorising during a pandemic

August 14, 2020 0 Comments
Hello everyone!

Now that face masks are the essential new accessory whenever we step outside the house, we cannot wear big hoops or dangle earrings anymore.  If you try to pair a face mask with dangle earrings or large hoops you will probably spend way too much time fussing around and untangling them from the mask straps.  To avoid this annoying distraction, here are my picks for the best face mask-friendly earrings.

What are the best earrings to wear with a face mask? – STUDS!

Before Covid-19 I loved wearing hoops and statement earrings.  Studs seemed so basic!  But now stud earrings are the new must-have.  It’s the only way to wear a mask and not have your earrings become entangled with the straps.

If you are in the market for some new jewellery, you can click on any of the images below to shop some of my personal favourites!  If you’re looking for some new earrings that won’t break the bank, perhaps one of these pairs will be the key to accessorising in the “new normal"!

Those are my picks of the best stud earrings to wear right now (summer 2020) with a face mask.  What do you think?  Whichever earrings you choose, stay safe and healthy out there.
