In the previous post I showed you how to cleanse your make-up brushes daily. I also gave you a simple recipe for a DIY daily brush spray cleaner. This post is
about weekly deep brush cleansing!
Deep cleansing:
Once a week, take some time to use a
brush cleaner to deep clean and condition your brushes! No need to spend a lot of money on a brush
cleanser, just follow these simple steps to make your very own natural purifying
brush cleanser!
You will need:
2 parts antibacterial liquid hand wash
1 part olive oil
Method:
Mix antibacterial liquid hand wash, olive oil and a little bit of water on a plate.
Gently swish
brush bristles around on plate.
Take brush
under running water (always have brush pointing down) and further work up lather.
Rinse well with
water and gently squeeze excess water out without pulling bristles.
Air dry with
bristles pointing down - you don’t want the water to loosen the glue holding
the brush together.
Take these steps to clean your
brushes will not only extend the life and quality of your brushes, it’ll help
prevent unwanted blemishes and breakouts.
Today I have some brush cleaning
tips for you. You cleanse your face morning
and night daily, but how often do you wash your make-up brushes?
Our brushes collect all sorts of dirt
including dust, make-up, oil and bacteria. If you don’t clean your brushes on a daily
basis, all that dirt is being transferred to
your face along with your make-up! Here
are a few steps you can take to make sure you keep your brushes, and your skin,
clean!
Daily cleaning:
Take a make-up remover wipe or an antibacterial hand wipe
to lightly clean your brush. Gently
swipe your brushes back and forth on the wipes to clean after each use. Or you can use this DIY daily
brush spray cleaner.
You will need:
alcohol (aka surgical spirit)
distilled water
lavender essential oil
spray bottle
Method:
Pour
the alcohol and water into a clean spray bottle, I dilute mine about 2 parts
alcohol and 1 part water.
Add a few drops of lavender essential oil, this will help reduce the alcohol smell and
also help condition the brushes.
Spray it
onto a tissue or directly onto brush bristles.
Gently
wipe brush onto a tissue to remove make-up.
Let
brush air dry - no need to rinse.
Use this sprayto quickly remove traces of make-up between applications.
Today's post is anothereyebrow post - I told you I'm obsessed! ;-) Eyebrows can change the way your face looks, so it’s
important to have perfectly shaped brows that complement and balance your face.
If you don't know your face shape, take this quiz and find out!
Here are some tips to help you choose the most flattering eyebrow shape to complement your facial features:
Oval face
Oval faces are lucky; oval faces are considered the
perfect shape. Full brows with a prominent arch are most complementing and to
create the appearance of fuller cheeks, shorter length brows work amazingly.
Round face
Choose medium to full brows that are more angular than round, an arch will
complement your natural features and offset the roundness of your face.
Angular face (Heart, Inverted triangle,Diamond, Pear)
Your face already has angles so medium brows that are
rounded with a soft arch work best. A
high arch will only make you look permanently surprised!
Square/Rectangle face
Like an angular face, you want medium brows that aren't overly flat or
arched. A soft arch will soften the angles of the face.
Long/Oblong
Flat straight eyebrows will help to shorten your face vertically and a low arch
will help open up your face horizontally.
Note for all:
Steer clear of thin eyebrows. Eyebrows need to be in proportion with your face like
all other features, so it’s best to get them groomed by a professional to
ensure they are perfectly suited to you.
I also came across these very useful eyebrow-shaping tips from doeadeery.com:

Today's post is about one of the oldest tricks used
by make-up artists. It gives you an intense
smudge and it’s super easy.
Warming
the eyeliner pencil makes it more malleable and easier to use, and the slightly
softened tip won’t drag on skin but will give a smooth, intense line!
You will need:
an eyeliner pencil.
an open flame (a lighter / a match / a candle.)
Method:
To soften it, hold the tip of the pencil in
the flame for one or two seconds.
Wait 15 seconds for the pencil to cool down.
Roll it a little on the back of your hand
to mould and keep the tip pointed.
Applying
almost immediately (provided it’s cool enough) will give the most intense,
smudgeable line.
Other ways of warming pencil liners include; rubbing the pencil between your fingertips, drawing it
across the back of your hand, blasting it with a hair-dryer, or leaving it on
top of a radiator.
Is
lighting your liner something you've tried, or would be tempted to try? Tell me in the comments below!

As we all know, well groomed eyebrows balance your features and frame your eyes. As I told you previously, I'm kind of
obsessed with eyebrows!
A
common way to groom your eyebrows is by using eyebrow pencil. This post will explain how to use it
correctly.
If you want well defined, natural-looking eyebrows, all you have to do is follow these few simple steps and additional tips below.
Step 1: Fill-in the eyebrows with your pencil using thin, hair-like strokes. Use short strokes that overlap, to make the
eyebrows appear fuller.
Step 2: Blend colour and groom brows with an eyebrow comb or
spooley brush. Step 3: (Optional) For
very defined brows, take a small flat brush and apply creamy concealer around
the brows to tidy up the edges. Step 4: (Optional) Keep you eyebrows in place with a brow gel.
Tips:
Choose the shade closest to you natural colour.
Never, ever fill in your brows with black pencil!Unless you want the black Sharpie brows, don’t do this. Even if you have black eyebrows, you want to fill them in with a dark brown colour - not black.
Make sure your eyebrows are groomed, before applying any make-up.
When it comes to filling-in your brows, the key is to remember to imitate the look of the hairs.
Never use solid tick lines to “draw in” the eyebrows.A series of thin, overlapping strokes provides a more natural-looking result.
Hello everyone! Today I will show you another beauty DIY; your own customized perfumed body powder. This also makes a great last minute gift, and I bet you can find all the necessary ingredients at home. You will need:
cotton balls or cotton disks
a perfume/essential oils of your choice
corn flour (cornstarch)
a glass jar with a lid
powder puff
Method:
Get a cotton ball or two and spray them with your favorite perfume. About 30 sprays. You can also put drops of essential oils like rose or lavender on the cotton balls instead.
Place the cotton ball(s) in the bottom of the glass jar.
Fill the container about half full with corn flour (cornstarch) and close the lid.
Shake the container vigorously.
Let the perfumed powder mixture stand for 10-14 days so the perfume/oils can penetrate the powder.
Use a powder puff and enjoy your own customized perfumed body powder!

Today's post is a simple recipe
for translucent face powder! Not only is it easy to make, but it also gives your
skin a break from all the toxins and chemicals found in commercial
face powders! The ingredients are items
that you probably already have in your kitchen.
This powder is very effective at mattifying the skin
and setting your make-up and because it’s
made with skin-loving ingredients, it will also nourish your skin! Here’s how you make it:
Ingredients:
Arrowroot
powder: this powder is made from dehydrated and ground arrowroot, which is
known to have skin-smoothing effects.
Corn
flour (cornstarch): absorbs excess oil, helping to give your skin a matte
finish
Cocoa
powder: has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which help to firm
and renew your skin
All three ingredients can be found at the cooking and baking supply section at the store!
Method:
Combine 2
tablespoons of arrowroot powder and 2 teaspoons of corn flour in a bowl.
Add in a
little cocoa powder until it reaches a shade similar to your own natural skin
tone. This is a translucent powder, so I suggest you only use between ½ and 2 teaspoons.
Mix
thoroughly.
You may keep your powder for up to six months in a
sealable container. I really love this DIY loose powder and I'm pretty sure you'll love it too!
Today I want to talk to you about dotting tools. Nail art dotting tools come in a variety of sizes and are used to help create dot and circle patterns.
How to use: As you probably know, just dip the end of your dotting tool in nail polish, and dot away!
It’s also easy to create your own nail dotting tools using stuff you have lying
around at home.I use these all the time to create polka dot designs. (Check out some of my designs below!)
Here's how you can make four different DIY dotting tools. Enjoy!
1
From micro points to polka dots, a toothpick is an obvious and most popular choice for dotting. Be sure to purchase picks with flattened bases for an extra shape to play around with!
2
Bobby
pins are another cheap and
convenient alternative. Just bend them out
straight, and use the round tips at the end like regular dotting tool.
3
You can also use ballpoint pens. I suggest that you use an old one with no ink left.
4
You can also create your own dotting tool by sticking a straight pin into the eraser end of a pencil. I really like this one because if
you use a bigger straight pin, you'll have bigger dots, while with a smaller
straight pin, you'll have smaller dots. It's very versatile.
Well, there you have it. Have fun experimenting! And here's a little nailspiration...
Today's post is a double NOTD post! My mum and I are both wearing Silver Crackle nail polish. Check out both looks below and vote for who wore it better! ;)
This is what I
am wearing on my nails today...
I applied one coat
of Sparkling Black nail polish
and one coat of Silver Crackle on
my thumb and ring finger nails.
My mum is
wearing Silver Crackle on top of a Shimmery Burgundy polish...
Tips:
The thinner you apply the crackle polish, the smaller the
cracks with look.
Never try to apply two coats of crackle
nail polish.
Do you like the end results? Who wore it better me or my mum? ;) Let me know in the comment section below.
Here’s
how you can make an easy, portable, all-natural solid perfume.
Ingredients:
beeswax
carrier
oil (like jojoba, sweet almond or grapeseed)
essential
oil/s of your choice
Use equal
parts grated beeswax and carrier oil (2 teaspoons of each) and about 40-45 drops of
essential oil. You will
also need an old lip balm container.
Method:
In a
small bowl/container, measure out your essential oil blend and make sure you
like the smell while it’s concentrated. Keep in mind that the smell will soften once
you add it to the beeswax and carrier oil.
In a
small double boiler, start the water heating on the bottom pot and melt your
measured beeswax into the dry top pot. When
your beeswax is pretty much melted, add in the carrier oil and stir until
everything is liquid.
Turn the
heat off and mix in your essential oil/s.
Carefully
pour your homemade perfume mixture into your chosen container. If, for some reason, the perfume hardens
before you’re able to get it into your container, don’t panic. Just put the bowl back on top of your double
boiler and let it re-melt. Don’t leave
it over the heat for too long, because the essential oils will evaporate.Within a few minutes, your perfume will set,
and it will be completely hardened.
I haven't posted a NOTD post in months! Today I want to show you another Halloween inspired nail art - Jack-o'-lantern nails! Check out my previous Halloween inspired nails:A bloody Halloween.
This nail art is very easy to make. All you will need for this jack-o'-lantern manicure is an orange nail polish, a black nail polish and a clear topcoat.
Tip:The detailing of the eyes, nose and mouth can be done with a nail art striper brush. If you don't own one, you can use an old liquid eyeliner brush.
Will you be wearing Halloween inspired nail art this year?
